The Epiphany and the Electoral College
Both the Epiphany and the Electoral College take place on Friday, January 6th.
The Electoral College will be before the Senate. The votes from the states will be counted. We know the results, but we need the procedure. We need to hear that the Governors certified the results; Certificate of Ascertainment. Each state, totaling 50, has their certificate verified for completeness and accuracy – the document can be seen in the National Archives website; U.S. Electoral College. The Vice President, the President of the Senate, counts the votes. The announcement is made. All is witnessed and recorded.
WE THE PEOPLE must make sure that 4 years from now that the Electoral College stands. We have to start on that venture now; even before the Inauguration. Friday, January 6th, 2017 is the last listing on the calendar before the Inauguration. Yes, it’s procedural; but vital. And necessary. We have to tell ‘them’ and remind ‘them’ that Donald Trump WON.
Alexander Hamilton wrote Federalist paper #68 – how the Electoral College works, why it is needed – his perspective as the United States was forming, how powerful and durable that thinking is here in this new millennial.
Justice Antonin Scalia said that ALL the Federalist papers should be taught. That means they need to be read and studied. How many schools do that? You go to your local school board meeting, how many people show up for that?
The hottest ticket on Broadway is Hamilton. How many have read the book by Ron Chernow upon which it is based? If you look in the index at the back of the book, there is no listing of Electoral College. The Federalist Papers, which Hamilton wrote, are grouped together; there are continuous pages that go through them with commentary on each. However, there is no particular attention given to #68, the one about the Electoral College. That is why it is up to us, WE THE PEOPLE, to make sure we follow through on the necessity of the Electoral College. So that 4 years from now, this nonsense is not witnessed again.
Friday, January 6th, 2017 is the day of the Epiphany; the 12th day of Christmas. Various calendars have differing dates. The Three Kings Day. The gift of the Magi. This is a day of celebration. This day is part of the religious celebration of Christmas.
And this time both the Epiphany and the Electoral College certification occur on Friday, January 6th, 2017.
Great Patriots, here is an old recipe for a cake for the Epiphany.
From the New York Times – the date that I see is December 31, 1972.
1 lb butter, room temperature
2 cups sugar
8 large eggs, room temperature
4 cups sifted flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons grated orange or lemon rind
2 tablespoons Brandy, orange or lemon juice
1. Preheat oven 300*
2. Grease and flour 10′ tube pan
3. Cream butter. Don’t beat it, cream it. Gradually add sugar, creaming until mixture is very light in color.
4. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating 2-3 minutes after each addition. Important > beat 2-3 minutes after each egg.
Sift in flour and salt, beating at slow speed until thoroughly incorporated, about 2 minutes. Loving care, time and attention, is needed for this cake.
5. Add flavorings, beat another minute. Pour into prepared pan and bake about 2 1/4 hours, or until golden brown and cake tester comes out clean. Let it cool 15 minutes, at least, before taking out of pan.
6. When completely cooled, dust with confectioner’s sugar.
