Lech Walesa: USA “No Longer World Leader”
Former Polish president and Nobel Peace Prize winner Lech Walesa says the U.S. no longer the world’s leader, and President Obama should start to lead – or get out of the way.
The “world is disorganized and the superpower is not taking the lead,” Walesa told the Associated Press on Friday.
When Walesa plans to give President Obama some choice advice this coming June, when the two will meet to mark 25 years since Poland was unshackled from Soviet rule.
“I will say: Either you want to be a superpower and guide us, or you should give the superpower to Poland and we will know what to do with it. Amen,” he said.
Walesa turned down an invitation to meet President Obama in 2011, after he felt snubbed that the two men would only meet as part of a working dinner with a dozen other ex-president former Soviet states and not privately.
“It’s difficult to tell journalists what you’d like to say to the president of a superpower. This time I won’t tell him, I won’t meet him, it doesn’t suit me,” Walesa said at the time.
