Iran To Make Yellow Cake Uranium Next Year

Iranian President Ahmadenejad was on hand to see rods put into the Tehran plant.

Iran announced on Wednesday that it will be able to produce yellow cake uranium next year.

Head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, Fereydoun Abbasi, made the announcement through Iranian state media, Press TV.

The announcement follows the installation of fuel rods into the Tehran Research Reactor, Press TV also reported. The rods produced at Isfahan nuclear facility and transferred to the reactor under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors.

“By placing nuclear plates into the Tehran reactor, Iran has taken the final step in completing the nuclear fuel cycle,” Press TV noted.

Abbasi also said new generation centrifuges have been installed and activated at Natanz nuclear facility.

While yellow cake uranium enriched at low levels is suitable for powering nuclear reactors for electricity, further enrichment can produce weapons-grade uranium, suitable for nuclear weapons.
