George Weber Killer Convicted
A 19-year old male prostitute has been convicted of killing WABC news reporter George Weber during an alcohol-and-cocaine fueled sex romp back in March 2009.
It was the second trial for John Katehis, whose first proceeding last year ended in a mistrial when a lone jury member could not be convinced the accused was guilty after two-and-a-half days of deliberation.
Katehis argued that he was 16 years old at the time of the killing, and was acting in self defense. Weber, who the teen met through sex ads on Craigslist, was a “sex predator and drunk,” defense attorneys argued.
On Tuesday, it took less than a day for the jury to convict Katehis of murdering the radio personality who regularly appeared on Curtis Sliwa’s “Curtis and Kuby” radio morning show.
Prosecutors went through the gory details of the incident, which involved Weber being tied down to his bed and smothered with “poppers,” a stimulant homosexuals use to enhance pleasure during intercourse. In a videotaped confession, Katehis admits to suddenly becoming paranoid and pulling out a knife.
“The knife just goes in and jabs him in the neck,” Katehis giggled in his confession.
The teen claims to have stabbed Weber only once; forensics show the broadcaster was stabbed more than 50 times.
Katehis faces 25 years in prison when sentencing happens on December 7.
