Conservative newspaper NewsMax has endorsed Texas Congressman Ron Paul over Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann as the true voice of the growing Liberty movement within the Republican Party.
“Bachmann looks almost opportunistic” in comparison to Paul, writes Doug Wead in his June 28 article, Tea Party’s Pick: Michele Bachmann or Ron Paul?, noting the Libertarian-Conservative is “the man who made it fashionable to believe in the constitution again” and “has been consistent over a lifetime and seemingly incorruptible.”
Wead lists several of Bachmann’s shortcomings, which include:
- Two terms in Congress for Bachmann, as opposed to 12 terms for Paul.
- As a legislator in Minnesota, Bachmann allegedly proposed US$60 million in earmarks.
- In Congress, in 2007, Bachmann appropriated US$3.7 million in federal pork.
- A report shows Bachmann’s counseling clinic got US$30,000 in state and federal subsidies, and a family farm received a US$260,000 federal farm subsidy.
- In 2008 Bachmann voted for Nancy Pelosi’s stimulus bill.
Paul is indeed a true advocate for “the little guy,” Wead writes, noting the Texan argues against the taxing of waitress’ tips while Bachmann, as a tax attorney, allegedly went after a taxpayer earning less than US$10,000 a year.
While Bachmann has strode to the head of national polls mainly due to media exposure not given to Ron Paul while borrowing his views and Tea Party, Wead says the fact that Paul’s views are being accepted is a good thing and supporters should not panic.
“Remember, the media did its worst against Ronald Reagan in 1980, calling him a racist and a warmonger and he eventually prevailed. His cause was to save America from totalitarian communism. Our cause is to save it from ourselves.”

Not only a dingbat, she’s also a pathological liar. She’s just about as sleezy as they come, IMO. She’ll pimp out anything or anyone in order to score political points, including her 23 foster kids who apparently haven’t even resided with her for over ten years.
I just hope a majority in this country are awake enough to see that she is blatantly ripping off everything Ron Paul. None of her positions are truly hers. She supported Pelosi’s ‘stimulus’ bill, she continually votes for the Patriot Act re-authorizations, etc. Simply put, Ron Paul is the real deal, and principled. Bachmann is a Johnny-come-lately.

I have a problem when somebody chooses something to do but doesn’t talk about the negatives in their choice. This is classic POLITICS. Also, if you are going to slam somebody, you should provide a link to the information. Otherwise, is it hearsay that you’re passing on?
Ron Paul is who he is. But, as a Libertarian, there is a disconnect from values that come from our religeous heritage, life and death issues like abortion, and any number of SOCIAL issues that are implied by the Constitution signatories in their lives and writing.
I’m not a fanatic on these issues. But, they are there. Knowing the man is answering whether he meditates on sundays or sends pictures of his junk on Facebook. Who is this man in the privacy of his life?

Jim, If you check the record Ron Paul has consistently been a supporter of the Right to Life dating back to his days as a med student when he observed a late term abortion.He finds his position consistent with the constitution: “RIGHT TO LIFE LIBERTY etc…. You can look for a tape of his appearance on the “View” tv show back in 2008. He also introduced a federal law which would prohibit abortion.

That’s a quote from the Declaration, not the Constitution. Tho I do enjoy it when Paul supporters get all excited and incorrectly attribute every single quote they admire to the Constitution. These self-appointed Constitutional scholars never shy away from displaying their complete lack of knowledge regarding the US Constitution (the 14 amendment comes to mind), and these same folks generally have the nerve to advise others to “check the record” and/or “do some research.”
Christian/married to the same woman over 50 years and doesn’t go on trips without her unless she is sick/ delivered over 4000 babies/ doesn’t believe in killing people before OR AFTER they’re born (against illegal wars and abortion) All of these facts are readily available for anyone who would take the time to look them up rather than waiting for Bill O’Reilly to tell them what to think. I’m not sure I understand what your implying, or asking? If you’re concerned that Ron Paul follows the common Libertarian stance regarding abortion, being pro-choice, be reassured that you can’t get more pro-life than Ron Paul. You should check out the entire chapter he dedicated to this topic in his new book – I believe it’s actually chapter 1. The man has delivered over 4,000 babies and has a perfect voting record defending ALL life, including the unborn, who he considers to be the most vulnerable. He has continually proposed repealing Roe v. Wade by passing legislation (which he has introduced several times before, including when republicans held the Congress and presidency) that would essentially remove the matter of abortion from the jurisdiction of the federal courts.

The bias is against Paul, so the one or two articles that favor Paul that we get to read, hmm, once every year or two, are all the more welcome. Besides, the Newsmax article is absolutely correct. You can’t deny anything in it. Bachmann’s voting record is her voting record. I consider it to be reprehensible as a Constitutional conservative. Paul’s is one that is worth defending in every regard. Bachmann voted for Pelosi’s stimulus bill, that stimulated nothing, which in and of itself should be grounds for all republicans to discount her candidacy, but if that wasn’t enough, the woman still votes to reauthorize just about the most un-American, illegal, unconstitutional piece of legislation of recent history – the Patriot Act. These two votes alone (stimulus / Patriot act) clearly show that among the initial resurgence of the modern day Tea Party movement that sprung up in 2007, Bachmann’s views are not common. Her views most align with the status-quo, neoconservatism that the republican party has been infiltrated and hijacked by since the Clinton years. Neoconservatives are not conservative. They come from the left!
If more media outlets would give an honest account of who Ron Paul is as this writer has,then Dr Paul would have a chance to get his message out.
Bachmann is just like the rest of the contenders, except for Ron Paul.
They will say anything to get a vote, and then funnel every dime they can get back to their “supporters”.

Dr. Paul would draw more Democrat crossover votes than any other Republican as his positions on marijuana and foreign adventurism match up nicely with the positions of Frank and Kucinich respectively. If the object is to beat Obama, even neocon Republicans should get the math.
No one has ever won the GOP nomination for POTUS on the basis of their crossover appeal to democrats. And even if this were a factor, such an edge would belong to Gary Johnson and not Ron Paul.
Totally disagree.. There have been several major, national polls that show Paul has the greatest chance of any current republican candidate at beating Obama in 2012. Not necessarily because of the crossover democratic vote, but because Paul will do far better with independents and the youth than any other candidate. Paul’s been at this much longer, and clearly has a much larger base of support than Johnson. Besides, people who support Johnson based on principle, will have no problem supporting Paul. I would personally support either, should either get the nomination, because I endorse the ideas more so than the man.

The democrats will never vote for Michelle Bachmann. She wants to force her social conservatism on them. Ron Paul has it right — while as socially conservative as they come, he recognizes that these are issues for the states, they are not the role of the federal government. Plus, he takes the practical view that the government really cannot legislate personal moral behavior anyway (i.e. failure of the war on drugs).
70% of the country is sick and tired of all these ridiculous wars that are bankrupting the country, demoralizing our soldiers, spreading us too thin around the world, and leaving us weaker and more vulnerable. Obama has been a failure on getting us out of all our military adventurism; he is starting up new unconstitutional wars and ignoring Congress. Which is the only candidate who would stop wasting trillions on foreign military bases, foreign aid, and endless wars? Ron Paul.

As a liberal leaning person Ron Paul is the ONLY republican candidate I could live with. He is the only one I believe to be sincere.
The reason the media is biased against him is because he is not pro-corporation the way the rest of the republicans are. He stance is fully developed and does not contradict itself the way the other candidates do. He is the Kucinich of the republican party. So even though I am not a republican I could get behind him, and if more republicans were like him I’d find myself listening to a lot more of them.
