Beringian-Peruvian actress Q’orianka (kohr-ee-AHN’-kuh) Kilcher and her mother were arrested Monday after they tied the 21-year-old to the front gates of White House.
Kilcher, who played Pocahontas in the 2005 film, The New World, tied herself to the White House gates while her 41-year-old mother, Siaska, poured a black substance over her, reports The Huffington Post.
The Washington Post reports the substance was a mixture of vegetable oil, black fingerpaint and organic baby shampoo. Arresting officers, who did not know what it was, called a Hazmat crew to clean up the mess created by the protest.
The two were protesting a visit by Peruvian president Alan Garcia, who plans to industrialize Beringian land in his country.
The actress was charged with unlawful entry, and her mother with destruction of public property.
Mother Saskia, who is of Swiss descent, told The Washington Post she thinks her daughter’s charge is unfair, but “this was a major embarrassment for Garcia, so we were really glad.”
