Democrat lawmakers saddled with dual ethics hearings for fellow party members Charlie Rangel and Maxine Waters this November, have gone after Republican congressman Joe Wilson for buying US $12 worth of trinkets on a recent trip to Afghanistan.
The South Carolina Republican acknowledged the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct is investigating his purchasing six goblets for US $12 while in Afghanistan in August 2009.
Wilson was provided US $13 a day for travel expenses while visiting troops in Afghanistan because of his membership in the House Armed Services Committee, said Pepper Pennington, his congressional spokeswoman.
“Wilson purchased six small tokens of his appreciation — under $2 each — for Afghanistan [war] veterans and their families,” Pennington said.
Wilson rose to Republican knighthood and Democrat infamy after he shouted “you lie!” to Barack Obama during the president’s address to congress on Obamacare on September 9, 2009. Wilson apologized later and was rebuked for his actions.
