The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has banned Crocodile Dundee star Paul Hogan from leaving Australia until he settles an unpaid tax bill to the government.
Hogan, who lives in Los Angeles with his wife, former Crocodile Dundee co-star Linda Kozlowski and their child, was served with the notice from when he returned to Australia to attend his mother’s funeral.
The ATO claims Hogan has hidden away some AUS$37.6m (US$33.2m) in movie profits in various offshore accounts. It is being estimated that he may be forced to pay at least AUS$15m (US$13.2m) in back taxes.
Hogan denies the charges, saying he has “paid plenty of tax” in Australia.
A spokesman for the ATO had no comment on the matter.
