US President Barack Obama moved to clarify his statements endorsing the building of an Islamic mosque two blocks away from Ground Zero in New York City Sunday, saying Muslims have the right to worship in America but that he would not comment on the “wisdom” of the project.
“My intention was to simply let people know what I thought,” Obama told CNN on Saturday. “Which was, in this country, we treat everybody equally, regardless of race, regardless of religion. I was not commenting, and I will not comment, on the wisdom of the decision to put a mosque there [at Ground Zero].”
Obama took a different tone in comments marking the celebration of Ramadan at the White House Friday night when he said:
Let me be clear: as a citizen, and as president, I believe that Muslims have the right to practice their religion as everyone else in this country, and that includes the right to build a place of worship in a community center on private property in Lower Manhattan in accordance with local laws and ordinances. This is America.
The comments erupted in condemnation from Americans over the weekend.
“If the president is going to get involved, he should put everything on the table. He shouldn’t do what he did on Friday night and just make half a statement, which was not even relevant because nobody was questioning the right to build a mosque. It’s a question where it should be,” Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., told Fox News.
Democrat Jeff Greene, who is running for the Senate in Florida, distanced himself from the president. “President Obama has this all wrong and I strongly oppose his support for building a mosque near Ground Zero,” he said. “Freedom of religion might provide the right to build the mosque in the shadow of Ground Zero, but common sense and respect for those who lost their lives and loved ones gives sensible reason to build the mosque someplace else. President Obama had the chance to show leadership by calling on the mosque’s supporters to find a more appropriate location.”
After Obama made his new statement saying he would comment on building what has become known as the Ground Zero Mosque, White House spokesman Bill Burton issued a statement saying “the president is not backing off in any way from the comments he made last night.”
“It is not his role as president to pass judgment on every local project. But it is his responsibility to stand up for the constitutional principle of religious freedom and equal treatment for all Americans,” Burton said.

Narcissism knows no bounds.
This guy is a real moron. Shows you what affirmative action can do for acceptance to college. I wonder if he knows how to tie his shoes or if they taught him that at Harvard. Of course that might be racist because I know how to tie mine and for the sake of social justice I need to forget how to tie them so we can all be equally stupid like this dope.

In spite of all you koo koos out there the president was very smart in not getting involved because no matter what he says people will make his words wrong. I do feel that on a Citizen level he should stand against the mosquito farm, but he can't simply put. He just can't side with any side. Because if he side with American's then others would attack him and if he sided with the Chinese or anyone for that matter it would do him more harm. Just let him do his job, it will be over soon then we can elect someone else to blame.
