Maxine Waters
Anonymous sources close to the House Ethics investigation of Congresswoman Maxine Waters say the California Democrat may face trial this fall for a possible conflict of interest involving a bank that was seeking federal aid.
As previously reported, Waters allegedly tried to secure a US $50 million loan for the self-described “First Black-Owned Internet Bank,” OneUnited. Her husband, Sidney Williams, served on its board until early 2008 and had about US$250,000 in bank stock.
The Friday leak came hot on the announcement of a possible ethics trial for fellow Democrat Congressman Charlie Rangel. While Rangel is a former chairman of the tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee, Waters is a prominent member of the House Financial Services Committee. Both long-time Representatives are also members of the Congressional Black Caucus, and a dual trial would pose as a major embarrassment to the group, as well as for the Democrat Party, which is facing a resurgent Republican wave in upcoming elections.
Waters proclaimed her innocence in a prior statement.
UPDATE (Aug.2, 2010): The House Ethics panel has formally filed charges against Waters, reports AP. Specific charges have not yet been made public. If she does not work out a plea bargain, there will be a trial this fall.

Frank u are so much smarter than those people. I just think u don’t need to go there. I think u would have the best am show to ever hit the air. But i still love ya… battle on! You have real historical knowledge, guts and a sharp edge, i just think its an insult to.. , like i say Rv Jesse Lee Petersen and others like him who are on the right side of this battle.
