Michael Savage
Despite a change to conservative leadership in Great Britain, the UK has decided to keep conservative talk radio host Michael Savage on a list of people banned from entering the country – unless he retracts the words that got him on the list.
WND.com reports that the UK Border Agency told Savage in a letter that he would remain on the so-called “name and shame” list “in the absence of clear, convincing and public evidence” that he has “repudiated his previous statements.”
The list of banned people includes several known terrorists, including Hamas leader Yunis Al-Astal. In his book Banned in Britain, Savage publishes documents from the UK Home Office that show he was placed on the list for “balance” and “fairness” so the government did not look like it was targeting Muslims.
Unlike Yunis Al-Astal, Savage is banned merely for things he said on his radio show.
The “name and shame” list bans several other Americans for their political beliefs, including Stormfront founder Don Black, Neo-Nazi leader Eric Gliebe, and the Rev. Fred Phelps, who notoriously proclaims “God Hates Fags.”
UK Home Secretary Alan Johnson announced in July 2009 that he would life the ban on Savage, calling the restriction a “blunder.”
Today’s letter to Savage from the British government says he was “excluded from the UK for engaging in unacceptable behaviour by expressing views that seek to provoke others to serious criminal acts and fostering hatred which might lead to inter-community violence.”
Savage contends his banning is based on audio snips taken out of context from his show. He plans to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights.

We should all be troubled when speech deemed offensive by a few beaurocrates becomes a tool to restrict travel. What is next, denial of property rights. Nice speech is not in need of proctection because we all agree it is nice; it is that speech which may be offensive, whether political or otherwise, which we should all welcome not necessarily because we agree with its content but its symbol of freedom. Is what Michael Savage said possibly worse than those who burn the flag in the name of free expression. It is for this reason alone that Michael Savage should be defended and the U.K. called to task.
Should be banned from 49 of the 50 (or is it 57?) states. I'll let you guess which one would allow him.

David is right. I don’t care for Savage’s show, so I don’t listen. Still, he has an audience which keeps him on the air, and he matters to them enough to get the ratings. No matter what, freedom of speech is one of our most important rights. If we lose it, say goodbye to all talk, including Frank and John.
Government has no role in controlling the speech of the public. That should hold true for any civilized nation, which Britain supposedly is. I’ll stand behind Savage on this.

Why ban him? He is just a huckster who ripped me off time and again. He has no substance. What are they banning? His discussing his dog, and the cheap restaurants he eats at? His screaming is no substitute for conviction and principles. What else are they banning him for? Telling you that he has two PhD’s? That he wrote 25books that were filled with cliches and ghost written? Being banned is great for him as it makes him look like he’s doing something important and being a martyr. He says that he’s number three in the ratings, so does Beck, Levin, ect. He is the outsider in high school who was jealous of the “in crowd” of Limbaugh, Hannity, O’Reilly, ect. He proves that if you sound like you know something, even though you don’t people will think you do!

I am listening to Savage since 1995 or 1994 when KSFO started in SF. He is making more sense that you ever did. So he is bragging about his double PhD, so what? Does it hurt you? Don't listen, nobody is perfect.
And no, he is not ripping you off, he's been saying the Columbus story for at least 12 years as far as I know. You wish you were being ripped off.
One day when we all lose speech rights, then you will recall why Savage was fighting them.

I was the first to use the phrase "liberalism is a mental disorder". He was second and because he was in SF at the time he tought that no one would find out that I was first!! And yes, I have the tape and it can be dated to when I thought it up. "Little Mugabes"? I was the first to use it on TRP!!!! At least a year before him!!! "Allahland"? I was again first and he was again, second!!! There is alot more, and these are not just "coincidences", there are just too many to be!! The issue here is the loss of freedom of speech. Loss of our freedoms begins slowly and gets worse and worse. "I offended" is rediculous! So you're offended. I have a right to offend you and you me! You don't have to like me nor me you. That is not a reason to ban someone or take away their rights. Of course, this is England, not America we're talking about.
