An eyewitness to the exhumation of Bobby Fischer says the NY Post got it wrong when it reported that the American chess master’s coffin and body were drilled into to get a DNA sample to settle a paternity test.
“I can confirm that that is not right,” Selfoss District Commissioner Olafur Helgi Kjartansson told reporters.
The NY Post covered the exhumation with a story titled, Fischer’s corpse is ‘drilled’.
Kjartansson said the process was done with the utmost respect for the deceased. A priest and doctor were also present, and everything was left intact.
As previously reported, the Icelandic Supreme Court ordered the DNA sample to be taken to prove whether Fischer is the biological father of 9-year-old Jinky Young.
