An American tourist has been shot and robbed in South Africa, moments after he stepped off the train to start his vacation.
35-year-old David Bueche arrived in South Africa Wednesday night from Los Angeles and took the Gautrain, a special rapid-transit railway system that links OR Tambo International Airport to Johannesburg and Pretoria.
Moments after he stepped off the Gautrain at Standton Station, four robbers attacked him, shot in in the arm, and robbed him.
Bueche did not know he was shot. “He was just complaining of chest pains, and that was when paramedics realized he had been shot under the arm,” Police Brigadier Sally de Beer told IOL.
Beuche was taken to an area hospital and is listed in stable condition.
Police have filed charges of robbery and attempted murder in the case.
