One of the alleged Russian spies targeted a top fundraiser for the Democrat Party who is also a good friend of Bill and Hillary Clinton.
According to the federal complaint, alleged Russian spy “Cynthia Murphy” was a vice president at Morea Financial Services in lower Manhattan. The little-known company manages the finances of venture capitol figure Alan Patricof, who raised money for Clinton during her US Presidential and New York Senate campaigns.
According to the complaint, Murphy was assigned to Patricof’s account.
Reports Politico.com:
Murphy had “several work-related personal meetings” with a person it describes as “a prominent New York-based financier,” and says she and her husband and alleged co-conspirator accurately reported back to Moscow that the financier was “prominent in politics” and “an active fundraiser for” a major political party, as well as “a personal friend” of a current Cabinet secretary, and in a position to provide information about foreign policy.
Patricof has confirmed with the Washington Post that he did have lunch several times with Murphy, but emphasized that he “never discussed anything but paying the bills and taxes in normal phone calls or meetings.”
