Defense lawyer Puna Moroko outside the Ventersdorp courthouse
The lawyer representing one of the accused killers of Eugene Terreblanche has dropped a gay sex defense and now says the AWB leader “throttled and assaulted” his client on several occasions.
Puna Moroko, lawyer for 28-year-old Chris Malangu, told reporters outside the Ventersdorp Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday that charges his client made that Terreblanche attempted sodomy on him were not true.
“He [Mahlangu] mentioned “sodomy” to me [but] the consultation was very short… It didn’t satisfy me, it just did not make sense to me, that’s why I abandoned it,” said Moroko.

“I am not satisfied that there was sodomy and my client accepted my advice.”
Initial reports, including a confession by the mother of the 15-year-old boy also accused of killing Terreblanche, said the murder was the result of a wage dispute gone wrong.
The two suspects changed their story to a sodomy defense after a report published over the weekend in a South African tabloid alluded to a gay sex angle and claimed a used condom was found at the crime scene. Although police quickly denounced the article as a lie, it was reprinted throughout the media, eventually finding its way into The New York Times.
Now Moroko claims his client, who had been working for Terreblanche since last November, was throttled two months ago by the far-right leader.
“He [Mahlangu] said he [Terre'Blanche] throttled him… [Terre'Blanche] said I’d kill you because the cattle is missing,” said Moroko.
“The throttling was not an isolated incident,” he added.

Moroko did not say if the assault on his client happened on the day of the murder, which was last Saturday.
Moroko says Terreblanche was found with his pants down “because it was hot” and he often did that to cool off.
Prosecutors have filed a charge of crimen injuria against the two accused, explaining it as: “…. they pulled down his [Terre'Blanche's] pants to his knees and exposed his private parts”.
Moroko also said that even though the two accused did phone police to say, “we killed Terreblanche”, that did not constitute a confession because a confession in law was made up of “different elements.”
A bail application for Malangu has been postponed until May 10th at Morko’s request. The lawyer for the 15-year-old boy decided not to apply for bail for his client at an earlier private hearing and he will return to the court on May 14.

An 89 year old woman and her son were battered to death in their home in Christopher Street, Margate Extension Three.
John Barret (59) and his Mother Margaret are believed to have been killed last Saturday. The grisly discovery was made by friends living nearby. Police spokeswoman L-C Zandra Wiid said when police arrived they found a puddle of blood outside the house. Upon further investigation Mr. Barret’s body was found behind the garage and his Mother was found on the opposite side of the house lying in a pool of blood in the courtyard. The house had been ransacked.
No one has been arrested.
