Terreblanche Murder “Attack On Democracy”

South African political parties from both sides of the aisle have condemned last night’s savage murder of AWB leader Eugene Terreblanche, calling it “an attack on South African democracy.”

“An attack of this nature can be regarded as an attack on the diverse components of the South African democracy,” MP Juanita Terreblanche (no relation) from the liberal Democratic Alliance said. “The DA calls for people to remain calm and on the ANC to strongly condemn racist utterances which has become synonymous with Malema and his ilk.”

Calling Terreblanche’s murder a “farm attack,” the DA also said in press statement that “this happened in a province where racial tension in the rural farming community increasingly is being fueled by irresponsible racist utterences by [....] Julius Malema and the North West Cosatu Secretary, Solly Pheto.”

South African president and ANC leader Jacob Zuma also condemned the murder and called for calm.

“The President appeals for calm following this terrible deed and asks South Africans not to allow agent provocateurs to take advantage of this situation by inciting or fueling racial hatred,” his office said in a statement.

F.W. DeKlerk

Spokesman for former president FW De Klerk, Dave Steward, said he was “shocked and outraged” at news of the murder. “Though we have no sympathy for the political views expressed by Mr Terre Blanche, South Africa’s democracy is built on tolerance.”

Steweart said it was difficult to view the incident without reference to Malema’s recent comments to the “Shoot the Boer” song.

The ANC is under increasing public pressure after its strong defense of ANCYL leader Julius Malema’s singing of “Shoot (Kill) the Boer.” The song, used by the ANC during its days as an outlawed group battling Apartheid has been banned by a South African High Court for its incitement of violence against a particular ethnic group. Malema may still face hate crime charges for singing the song.

AWB spokesman Andre Visagie also called for calm, but vowed revenge for the murder. “The only comment we can make is that we will try to do the best to keep our people under control… en dat ons wil volstaan met die komentaar dat sy dood gewreek sal word (and that we want to stand by the statement that his death will be avenged),” he said.

The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) has also publicly condemned the Terreblanche murder. “Despite our major disagreements with him there can be no justification of what happened to him,” spokesman Patrick Craven said.

Steve Hofmeyr

Afrikaans singer and activist Steve Hofmeyr said, “My heart is broken. From my side as an Afrikaner I am going to have to pacify other Afrikaners who have been provoked in the last two months by twits like Julius Malema. I had an appointment with him to talk about cultural matters in a few weeks time. This is a trying time for Afrikaners.”

“He must be buried at the Peter Mokaba Stadium to remind everyone about the man who is responsible for the chant Kill the Boer Kill the Farmer.”

I was saddened learning of his death, and more so now than had it taken place 17 years ago. I may have been against Eugene Terre’Blanche on numerous issues, but through the years many of his criticism of an ANC government have come true.

He told Afrikaners about the dangers, and that even if South Africa became politically multi-racial that things wouldn’t change, and instead of blacks being oppressed the Boer people would. He did warn us the roles would be reversed and was right.

Sad that the beuatifull South-Africa is going downhill.

Its a pitty that the leaders of South-Africa fail to prevent corruption, crime and murders of the white and black South-Africans who want to build a better land for all nations.

Its time that they stop filling their own pocets and that they stand up for what Nelson Mandela wanted for the people of South-Africa. Peace and goodwill for all.

If things doesnt change, every thing Nelson Mandela stood for will become a lie and his legacy will be written in the blood of the same South- Africans he so desperatly wanted to give a better life.
