Eugene Terreblanche, 1941-2010
Members of the family of Eugene Terreblanche have called for calm while police continue their investigation of the AWB leader’s murder.
In a Sunday morning press conference that last only a few minutes, Terreblanche brother Andries appeared with AWB members to make the statement.
Police Minister Nathi Mtethwa and General Bheki Cele also spoke, refusing to give any further details. The two emphasised there was no political connection between the Terreblanche murder and a socio-political groundswell brought about by ANCYL leader Julius Malema singing of “Kill the Boer”.
The ANC is under increasing public pressure after its strong defense of ANCYL leader Julius Malema’s singing of “Shoot (Kill) the Boer.” The song, used by the ANC during its days as an outlawed group battling Apartheid has been banned by a South African High Court for its incitement of violence against a particular ethnic group. Malema may still face hate crime charges for singing the song.
