Texas Muslims Want Diplomas Sans “Our Lord”

A group of Muslim students at Trinity University in Texas are arguing their diplomas should have the words “our Lord” dropped to reflect the “diversity” of college life.

“A diploma is a very personal item, and people want to proudly display it in their offices and homes,” said Sidra Qureshi, a Muslim student and president of Trinity Diversity Connection, who is leading the charge to tweak the wording.

“By having the phrase In the Year of Our Lord,’ it is directly referencing Jesus Christ, and not everyone believes in Jesus Christ.”

Qureshi successfully argued for the change with student government and now University trustees are expected to address the issue in May.

The debate started last year when Isaac Medina, a Muslim convert from Mexico, noticed the wording on pre-made diploma frames.

“I honestly feel like nobody actually noticed it before,” Medina said. “Now that it has been brought up, the institution is trying to find its own identity. Are we or are we not a religious institution?”

When Medina applied to Trinity, university staff told him it wasn’t a religious institution and that it maintained only a historical bond to the church. He said he’d always felt welcome at Trinity, where the campus chaplain caters to students of all religions and the university recently dedicated a Muslim prayer space.

So the reference on the diploma “came as a big surprise,” said Medina, who graduated in December. “I felt I was a victim of a bait and switch.”

The school’s president and other students defend the wording, saying the school’s Presbyterian roots are appropriate and unobtrusive. Founded in 1869, Trinity has been governed by an independent board of trustees since 1969 but maintains a “covenant relationship” with the church.

President Dennis Ahlburg said Trinity should continue to foster a diverse environment but should not ignore its cultural and religious roots.

“The fundamental issue is not so much what is on the diploma,” he said. “The fundamental question is, ‘Is Trinity a place that is accepting and supportive of all faiths?’”

Ahlburg said he’s heard from many alumni and donors who oppose the change. Brendan McNamara, president of the College Republicans, also is against a change.

“Any cultural reference, even if it is religious, our first instinct should not be to remove it, but to accept it and tolerate it,” said. “Once you remove that phrase, where do you draw the line?”

Though Trinity has historically enrolled mostly white Christians, the university has taken pains to increase diversity. Since 1999, the share of international students has increased from 1 percent to 9 percent.

“it is directly referencing Jesus Christ, and not everyone believes in Jesus Christ.”

Not everyone’s a Muslim but it doesn’t stop Islam being shoved down our throats. If these typically belligerent Muslims and their ‘president of Trinity Diversity Connection’ don’t like how Texas operates they know how to leave.

The answer is simple, don’t give them a diploma. This isn’t a muslim university, it is called
“Trinity Christian College”. :”What part of Trinity “CHRISTIAN COLLEGE” do these dolts not understand?

If they didn’t want a diploma from that university then do not attend. But leave those alone that go to this university for the obvious reasons.

[.... the university has taken pains to increase diversity]

And that’s exactly where the problems come from you bloody white spineless twits. If you are Christian then bloody stick to your principals, because if you don’t you’ll become lukewarm and WILL BE spewed(loose) out.

But it’s unfortunately exactly what we see happening in more and more so called ‘Christian’ Nations which eventually will lead to a group of Fascists standing up and DO something about it. And when that happens then don’t complain but STF-up!!!

Strange that if some people go to certain muslim countries, the women have to cover their faces, you are not allowed to drink, and we accept their religion and customs. So, muslims should show the same respect when they are in our countries, even if they were born in them. Now we have muslim kids taking schools to court in the UK because teachers make them take off jewellery, white kids can’t wear it, so they shouldn’t either.

I’m thinking about all the many people, from all over the world, from all religious backgrounds, who have been grateful to obtain an excellent education from Trinity University.
I wonder if any one of these people would have dared to propose anything so fundamnentally offensive as what these Muslims are requesting.
Were/are they really that stupid, that when the initially applied to this school, that they did not understand that the institution was founded on Christian principles, most clearly expressed in its NAME, TRINITY, for the belief in the Tri-Une nature of God?
The arrogance here is beyond belief. It is exactly what has been occuring the last decades in Europe: anything and everything that does not conform to Sharia law is considered an ‘offense’ to Islam. And bit by bit, using the hard-fought resources of their host countries, they try to turn these societies inside-out to conform to their demands.
There is a much stronger line that is forming in this country. The US is not Europe, especially Texas.
If these people are offended by what their diploma states, and has stated for over 100 years, they should take their enlightened, superior faith, and their considerable braintrust, and establish their own fully Islamic University.
The adminstration of Trinity should dismiss, outright, this frivolous request, and invite them to do what I suggest above.
There are vast stretches of the Saharan desert that might be in need of such an institution.

This is where political correctness leads. We've gotta wake up and see this for what it is: an infringement of the rights our founders fought and died for. Once we used to say, America, love it or leave it. That option is still open to those who feel the need to "change this country" into something else. There are plenty of us who like her just the way she is.

Now that we're awake, let's get active and restore America to her rightful place.

This is just another way of getting God out of our everyday life so it is wasier to become godless communists like they want us to.

It’s the year 2010. Two thousand and ten years from what? Even Jews, Muslimsn and atheists use the Christian calendar in everyday affairs. And forget that C.E. and B.C.E. crap. Who are you kidding?

These 7th century throwbacks should either assimilate or go back to their Third-World toilets. If you went to their countries, you either abide by their laws and customs, or you die.

And for the homegrown islamic savages, they can either assimilate or move to any one of the islamic “utopias” of their choice.

America should not bend over to appease these arrogant barbarians.

  12. Emily Watson says

Tell the Muslims too bad you enrolled in a Christian school… next time think before you do that. Get a life muslims, America is Jewish/Christian/Hindu/Budhism, and not ISLAMIC.

  13. georgetheatheist says

Expertman, attack Communism per se. “God” has no bearing on its evilness. Yours truly, a “godless” capitalist. Read the works of Ayn Rand and not the Sermon on the Mount.

  14. klt says

I would have to say that aryan is correct. Diversity is a very dangerous word. Especially if you are a Christian who wants to be with the Lord when you die. I can’t understand why this muslim woman is attending a Christian university and then tries to change wordings on a diploma and not just be happy that she was blessed to get the teaching she got ? True Christians should not have to accept this. Diversity is a homo and fomo word which means that you will now be forced to accept everyone’s sinful lifestyle wether you like it or not. There is only one God, the Father the Almight and He is not a muslim.

  15. carl says

Why bother with those diaperheads and their piss and moans .they enrolled in a Christian school,Our Lord comes with the package deal.

  16. Adam Kratt says

Trinity University is a Christian college. If the Muslims do not want In the Year of our lord… on their diplomas dont go to a Christian college…. idiots
