South Africa Bans “Shoot The Boer” Song

Julius Malema

A South African High Court has ruled the song “Shoot The Boer,” popularized by the ANC during its battle against National Party rule, is now illegal because it incites hate and violence against a particular ethnic group.

The song came to back to light recently, after ANCYL leader Julius Malema lead a group of students at the University of Johannesburg in singing the song.

The Freedom Front Plus laid a criminal charge against Malema for allegedly advocating hate. The Afrikanerbond lodged a complaint with the SAHRC.

The ANC defended Malema’s use of the song, saying it had a broader meaning than just “kill the Boer.”

However, The South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg ruled the song unconstitutional and unlawful because it targets a specific ethnic group for violence.

The Freedom Front Plus welcomed the ruling, saying “Mr Malema was nine-years-old when (former president Nelson) Mandela was freed. He was never really part of the ‘struggle’. If he sang the song today, it has to be judged in the context of 2010 and the fact that farmers are being killed weekly,” in a statement.

The Afrikanerbond now wants the SAHRC to decide whether the song constitutes incitement to violence and hate speech.

ANC spokesman Jackson Mthembu expressed “shock and disappointment” at the ruling in a statment, saying “the high court did not make an effort to get input from the ANC as owners and experts on the struggle song on its mean (sic), its history and its purpose.”

The ANC also plans to appeal the ruling.

Well, for someone who only got 15 or 17% in maths in his final exams (matric), it doesn't say a lot for the future of South Africa. But that is good, seeming that they didn't take in to consideration that he failed his 1st and 2nd language tests alaso. I hope they make him comander in charge of the defence force when they do decide to attack the whites, at least that way, we have a chance to question how many he has in attack, lol.

The fact that the ANC is going to appeal the ruling says a lot by itself. All my sympathy to the people of that country. The ANC core do want to initiate ethnic cleaning of South Africa, but definitely not in such a visual and vocal way

Obviously banning the song is racist. Just as everything else is.

  4. Philoctetes says

The Boers should negotiate. Allow “Kill The Boer” in exchange for the reinstatement of “Die Stem”!!!!!!

  5. Leonard says

Philocetes – Are you implying that " Die Stem" is equal in language and message to the kill the boer chant? Kill the boer is a chant of ignorant morons, leading to violence. Die Stem is a national anthem that unites a people through patriotism and is a song, not a chant. Your comment makes no sense.
