Actor Fess Parker, who popularized Davy Crockett through his portrayal of the American hero in television and film during the 1950′s, has passed away at the age of 85.
The US Navy vet was 29-years-old in 1954 when the starred as the frontiersman Crockett in a three-part TV miniseries, “The King of The Wild Frontier,” whose theme song was #1 on the US pop charts for 13 consecutive weeks.
Walt Disney later released the shows as movies, where they enjoyed another round of enormous success.
California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger hailed Parker as “a true Hollywood legend.”
“Fess Parker has been a role model and idol of mine since I first saw him on the big screen,” he said in a statement.
“As a talented actor and successful businessman, he was an inspirational Californian whose contributions to our state will be remembered forever.”
