A South African lawyer and dissident blogger critical of the ANC-led government has been found dead in the men’s bathroom of a local police station, allegedly from a self-inflicted gun shot.
Under the nom de plume of “doodler,” C.J. Oosthuizen exposed the hidden tragedy of the “New” South Africa on the blog South Africa Sucks.
Both he and his brother, the founder of SAS known as Uhuru Guru, were arrested in early November of last year and had their identities revealed in what many believe was an operation orchestrated by the ruling ANC to silence criticism in the buildup to the 2010 World Cup Games.
Beeld.com reports that Oosthuizen went to the Randburg police station neatly dressed in a suit and tie and walked up to the first floor where the detective division is located. He went into the men’s room, entered and locked a stall, and then took his life.
“I last heard from Neels via email a couple of days ago and there was no sign that anything was amiss,” wrote Gonville, who broke the news at My SA Sucks. “I am sure that in the coming weeks there will be speculation about his motives, but I can tell you that I absolutely had no inkling that he was in this depressed frame of mind.”
Police told the Afrikaans-language paper Oosthuizen texted a friend he was about to end his life before doing so. They also claim he left a suicide note behind, but it was not found on his body.
“Every human being wants to die in dignity,” one anonymous commentator noted. “Nobody wants to die by the own hand in a police toilet. No one.”
The newspaper report also says it was unknown why Oosthuizen went to the police station, although it is believed he knew the policemen there.
Oosthuizen leaves a wife and three children.

Was this the same fellow that was supposed to go onto the show but backed out because of legal considerations? If he was under pressure from the gov. for his opinions, I was thinking he could, like the other white South African successfully did, seek asylum in Canada. I am very sorry to hear this and hope for the best for his wife and kids.

I believe in freedom of speech, which wasn’t the case in an apartheid South Africa either!. Whites are guilty of the same acts of cruelty. You have certainly taught your eviil lessons of violence, senseless killings, racism and controlling the masses through intimidation. South Africa is your creation so learn to deal with the consequences . The people o South africa are suffering cause of your greed and selfishness, Were was your voice then? I thought so … It sucks because you no longer are favored by the system.
