Underpants Bomber Would Not Have Blown Up Plane

Diagram of the explosion's impact

BBC documentary-makers have proven that Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab could not have blown up an airplane using explosives he smuggled on board in his underpants, as the Nigerian Muslim tried doing on Christmas Day 2009.

Using a decommissioned Boeing 747, an older version of the kind of plane that was targeted by Abdulmutallab, the BBC team used the same amount and type of explosive used in the attack, in exactly the same place he was at on the plane.

“The supports adjacent to the seat lost five or six rivets and the metal bowed out, but the structure didn’t fail,” said Captain J. Joseph, an aviation expert also featured in the BBC documentary How Safe Are Our Skies, which is also airing on Discovery Channel this week.

“The actual aircraft would have remained intact” and the pressurized air inside the cabin would have slowly leaked out of the missing rivets, said Joseph. The amount of explosives was “nowhere near enough” to bring down the plane, concluded Wyatt and Joseph.

The only fatalities would have been the Underpants Bomber himself and the passenger sitting next to him. The metal seats would have been enough to save the lives of the other people in the plane, even the ones directly in front of and behind the explosion.

Unfortunately, the team concluded that everyone on the plane would have had their eardrums punctured from the deafening sound wave coming from the explosion that would have spread through the cabin.

The actual model airplane in the real attack, an Airbus A330, is made of stronger and more durable material than a Boeing 747. The team concludes that there would have been even less damage to an Airbus A330 in the explosion.

Typical Liberal response! Homeland Security failed their job, this guy got on the plane, attempted to blow it up and all UK Liberals can say is “It wouldn’t have downed the plane”?!?!?! This is just an attempt to mis-guide the public away from lying the blame where it should go… Janet Nepoitano! UK Liberals need to stop kissing Obama’s ass and stay out of American Politics.

Nice try, but I have a question..did they do the experiment on the ground at asmospheric pressure? As many of you know, airliners fly at 30000 to 40000 feet, and pressureize the cabin to an 8000 foot level. The pressure at higher altitudes is less than it is at the ground. Which would make it easier for an explosion to rupture the skin. I don't think they accounted for this in the test and therefore the results are bogus.

You have to account for the pressure differential at altitude. A couple PSI less on the skin at altitude makes a big difference.

The BBC is no better than ABC, CBS, or NBC. The BBC is infested with Liberals and Marxists just as they infiltrated the Liberal/Marxist media in this country. Remember a few years back when NBC got caught red-handed rigging gas tanks on pick-up trucks to explode when involved in an accident?

The BBC has already caved to the huge muslim barbarians living amongst them in the U.K. The Brits have already committed themselves to their own destruction by appeasing the barbarians.
