Queens imam Ahmad Afzali
A Queens Imam has pleaded guilty to lying to authorities about tipping off admitted terrorist Najibullah Zazi.
Ahmad Wais Afzali made the plea in Brooklyn court Thursday.
Prosecutors said Zazi tipped off Afazli that he was being watched by Federal authorities when the bomb plotter came to New York City last September.
The Imam faces six months in prison for confessing his crime, and will be deported back to Afghanistan.
“I just signed my death sentence,” Afzali told reporters outside the courthouse after making his plea.
Zazi pleaded guilty last week to plotting to bomb the New York City subway system. He is expected to get life in prison without parole.
