South Africa “Not Ready” For World Cup: Fifa

Hold on there: Jerome Valcke says S. Africa not ready

With barely three months left until the start of the 2010 World Cup Games, Fifa Secretary General Jerome Valcke says South Africa is not ready to host the event.

“If the question is ‘Could we host the World Cup tomorrow morning?’ the answer is ‘no’,” Valcke told reporters Tuesday after a team workshop meeting in Sun City.

Concerns over safety and corruption left many to question the choice of South Africa as host. Fans have voted with their pocketbooks, with more than half of tickets available and most of those sold being bought by South Africans.

Still, Valcke blamed the still-uncompleted “Soccer City” located in Johanesburg, where the opening and closing ceremonies are planned to be held.

Unfinished: Soccer City

“At this stage, we couldn’t play the World Cup because Soccer City isn’t ready,” Valcke said. “At this stage, we couldn’t play the opening game. That’s a fact. At this stage, we have 700,000 tickets still to sell, at this stage I can make a list of things that aren’t ready for the World Cup.”

To make matters worse, England and Germany have raised concerns that their training pitches are not up to par. The South African team has had to move from its planned lodgings because of this issue.

“We have 108 days — it seems short, it is short, but even if we have to stay awake all night, every day, we will be ready by the time of the World Cup.”

There are also allegations that South African Airlines is colluding with local hoteliers to inflate the price of lodgings for the World Cup. South Africa’s tourism ministry has launched a probe into the matter.

I think you need a wake up call loz, you should have a look at facts they speak for themselves, where more people are murdered than the war in afghanistan, where white farms are killed on mass, where service delivery fails just about every day, where the infrastructure crumbles on a daily basis, holes the size of tyres on the roads, please my friend you need to wake up to F**** reality

after 1994 planet of the apes began and civilization started to dwindle to how it was from the beginning

True, corruption is still thriving in South Africa. Just look at ANCYL president. If soccer fans just stay in the areas that are safe and stay out of doggy places looking for funny things they would be ok. But there is going to be a few people leaving here with a bad taste in their mouth for South Africa! This I can guarantee. There are a lot of people in South Africa that is not South African’s and that are starving. And then there are the criminals from other countries that just have no respect for human life, they will kill you for your phone.

Crimes that have been done to people that I know were attacked by either guys from Nigeria and Zimbabwe. My one friend living next door was murder in front of his son by Zimbabweans. Shot through the head for a phone and a few Rand’s. The Police did not even take finger prints or any thing. The son of the murdered man is full of hate and the mother of the dead son still up till today has not heard anything from the police. So no I do not think people will be save if they are not vigilant them self’s.
