Did you hear this one? All the teachers got FIRED. I can’t believe it myself. This is what I’ve been talking about, visualizing that the day is coming. They must be listening to The Right Perspective. Long-time listeners know that Cheryl always likes to say, “Close down the schools, Kick out the Teachers, and Stick the Kid in front of a Computer”.
Up in Central Falls, Rhode Island, the high school came in real low; Low School, not High School. It finds itself in the lowest 5 percent of schools. Low graduation rates – only 48 percent; poor performance; low test scores. The CNN video interview showed school insiders saying that children go back to their native countries, very transient
population, very poor town, very small town. The “give amnesty” group always like to say that these “immigrants” are just like former immigrants.
No way.
Former immigrants worked at learning the language, excelling in school, learning what the schools were teaching, fitting in with the new culture. The “give amnesty” group doesn’t realize that the new so-called “immigrants” remain poor, get failing grades in school, don’t become part of the culture and don’t want to.
Two trustees of the Central Falls school Board of Trustees voted against firing every teacher; final vote 5-2. One of those trustees said “it’s a children’s rights issue”. They always love to say “the children”. As though WE are monsters. As though WE dislike children. As though WE have to make ALL SACRIFICES in life to provide for these children.
We are not the parents, we are not responsible for them; it is not our duty to pay in our tax dollar to have these bureaucrats (for lack of a better word) DECIDE that our tax dollar be thrown into one of these programs “FOR THE CHILDREN.” A Fortune of our taxpayer money being thrown into this educational system. And they’re transient: they go back to a foreign country – so these are “on American Soil Foreign Aid payments?” The graduation rate is 48% – that’s less than half. That’s disgraceful. “Only 7 percent of its 11th graders were proficient in math in 2009,” reports The Boston Globe. The students are not only NOT learning; they don’t want to learn, they just don’t care.
But the same school Board Trustee said, “we are not doing a good enough job for our students… poor students… ESL students (that’s English as a Second Language)… you can imagine the home lives.” It’s Not Our Responsibility.
This Trustee says, “We are not doing a good enough job” – Who is he to judge us. It’s our money. The school becomes a wasteland of expenditure.
Here are the statistics: Central Fall’s population is 18,823 people as of 2009. Housing values in town decreased 11.70 percent in 2009. That word was “decreased”. There are about 14 students per teacher in Central Falls – when I went to school the class had OVER 30 students. With 14 students, it’s more like private school. The unemployment rate is 15.90 percent. Jobs have decreased by 5.80 percent. Recent job growth is negative. Some more statistics; how they describe the demographics – household size is 2.78 people – 19.78% of people are married, with children – 18.84% have children, but are single. 54.42% are of hispanic ethnicity. Real Latinos, real Hispanic AMERICANS are proud of being American. They blend in to the American culture; only segregationists work at singling them out for differentiation and labeling.
And now let’s zero in on THE MONEY. This’ll give you a chuckle. “Busloads of teachers from across the state turned out” – paid for from the teachers union. Sure, the teachers union want the teachers to hold onto their $70,000-a-year jobs. That’s a good salary. The teachers are doing better than the average employed resident in this poor town. I’m sure the teachers are happy with that salary. Enter the union. In order to teach these transient pupils, more time and extra duties were to be assigned to the teachers. The “union leaders said they wanted teachers to be paid for more of the additional work and at a higher pay rate – $90 per hour rather than the $30 per hour offered.”
There you go. This they call a “childrens issue,” which costs $90 per hour. $90 per hour. Something is out of line. If the children are transient, their word, not mine – why should WE have our tax dollar pay to educate them and then they leave this country, go back to where they came from?
This educational system does not fit into the American way of life. This is a waste of money. The kid doesn’t want to learn, and then the kid goes back to their foreign land. We want to educate Americans so that when they graduate from school they work to better America. Money in the system. Tax payer dollar money in the system.
Only the union comes out ahead. The teachers were crying as they were being fired; they weren’t looking to lose their jobs. The union did not back off from their demands, which include the demand of $90 per hour for extra work. It’s right in front of them, a union of what – a union that does not represent their members.
It’s going to be interesting to see what happens next.
I still stick by my repeated comment – close down the schools, kick out the teachers, and stick the kid in front of the computer.
Back in my day, we studied out of books. They still publish books.
Today, the computer is available. The programs are exciting, interesting, and educational. A teacher is not necessary. The teacher is superannuated. Just like technology replaces hard labor, the computer will replace the teacher. The unions may have their union leaders but the teacher’s union may not have members.
Can you imagine, happy kids being educated from a computer. It’s here.

In New Jersey, school districts like this that are a “wasteland of expenditure”, are called Abbott Districts. These are where the legislature takes money away from your kids school and gives it to the Abbott school, getting the expenditure per pupil at the Abbotts up to $20K per year or more. Then the Abbott schools continue their downward spiral and the legislature gives them even more of your money.
It takes guts to do the right thing as was done in RI. In NJ the legislature has no guts, but they do have plenty of your money…and they freely give it away to the Abbott Districts.
WOW! I can’t believe how ignorant the supporters of this “bold move in education reform” are about how schools opperate, who actually makes the decisions that gravely affect the education of students and the multiple factors that affect students’ abilities to absorb and output learned information. I guess it further proves the grave need for education reform in this country. However for it to be a successful reform it needs to be done in a way that will actually improve education rather than blame the students’ best advocates.
I too believe teaching in front of computers is the wave of the future. Computer networking with well trained instructors will drive the cost down while at the same time provide quality education for the students. Teacher’s unions are only about the money and never about the best interest for the students.

Another masterpiece by Cheryl. As much as I support good teachers (my mother was a teacher for many years) and students who want to learn, I can see the benefits mentioned by Cheryl.
In any case, over the last decade or so I have seen too many teachers impose their political and religious beliefs on kids – kids who are vulnerable. Just look at the nonsense spread in schools months ago, all pro-Obama propaganda.
No, get back to teaching and maybe I’ll change my mind in a few years. As it stands now, I support Cheryl on this one.
