Winnie Drops Out Of Mandela Celebration

No Show: Winnie was "too exhausted" to recreate famous walk

Winnie Madikizela-Mandela has dropped out of celebrations honoring the 20th anniversary of her ex-husband and former South African president Nelson Mandela’s release from prison, saying it was “too exhaustive” for her.

Madikizela-Mandela was scheduled to lead a 500-meter march from the former Victor Verster prison in Paarl, Western Cape, a recreation of the walk she took with her ex-husband after he was released from prison 20 years ago.

No other details about her condition have been released to the media by the ANC.

“Something very strange has been going on,” one source told The UK Times Online. Wild horses would not keep Winnie away from an event like that. Everyone knows that if Mandela himself went, front-page news was guaranteed,”

Mandela’s former wife was also expected to address a rally attended by African National Congress veterans, including Ahmed Kathrada and Denis Goldberg.

Nelson Mandela did not attend the commemorative march either, reported The Guardian, much to the dismay of his supporters. Mandela, now 91 years old, is reportedly too frail to make the jaunt. Although he rarely makes public appearances these days, Mandela did attend the ANC rally afterward.

Madikizela-Mandela has been a constant source of controversy for the ANC. After Mandela’s 1990 release, details of her infidelity exploded onto South African newspapers, and the couple divorced. Ever since, ANC propagandists have been doing double-duty in Madikizela-Mandela’s image control department, in an effort to portray Nelson Mandela as “The Father of South Africa.”

Necklaced: 14-yr-old Stompie Moeketsi

In 1985 Madikizela-Mandela made an infamous speech where she declared, “With our necklaces we shall liberate this country.” The term “necklacing” refers to the practice of setting a tire filled with gasoline around a person’s head and then setting it ablaze. Her personal bodyguard, the innocuous-sounding Nelson Mandela Football Club, was responsible for many acts of intimidation, including necklacing, against Black opponents of Mandela. Most infamously was the necklacing death of 14-year-old activist Stompie Moeketsi in 1988.

Madikizela-Mandela was eventually tied to the murders, and later confessed to them.

Madikizela-Mandela has also been convicted for kidnapping and fraud.

Despite the scandals, the ANC made her the 5th selection on their MP list for the general election last year, a move roundly condemned by political rival Helen Zille.

Andrew Feinstein, a former African National Congress MP who resigned in protest over alleged government corruption, said about the anniversary: “My overwhelming sense when I look at South Africa today is just how far we as the ANC and South Africa have fallen from the heady days of Mandela’s years in office. It was an inspiring example of occupying the moral high ground. That’s now gone and I suppose I look at it with a sense of sadness.

“This anniversary is bittersweet. When one looks at the personal morality of the current leadership, the level of corruption, the delays in meaningful delivery of basic services, you feel the euphoria of the triumph over apartheid does feel tarnished.”

The Mandela children have also been a source of embarrassment. Zindzi Mandela, their youngest daughter, was evicted from her rented home in the toni neighborhood of Saxonwold, Johnaesburg for not paying rent and allegedly trashing the place.

Other members of the Mandela family have been accused of attempting to profit off of the family name.

A Hollywood movie starring Dreamgirls star Jennifer Hudson is in the works on Winnie’s life, something she is reportedly not happy with. The BBC is also working on a dramatic telling of her life with Sophie Okonedo in the lead role.

    CNN states she was there:
CNN) — Former South African freedom fighter-turned-president Nelson Mandela made a rare public appearance Thursday as the nation’s parliament met to honor him on the 20th anniversary of his release from prison.

“President Mandela united this country behind the goal of a nonsexist, nonracial democratic and prosperous South Africa,” President Jacob Zuma told lawmakers.

Mandela, 91, is known in the country as Madiba, his clan name. He and his wife, Graca Machel, were present to hear Zuma speak. His former wife, Winnie Mandela, also attended.

The Guardian says neither Mandela, Winnie, nor Jacob Zuma were there:

But the heavyweights of the ANC’s recent history were missing from the march. To the disappointment of supporters, there was no appearance of Mandela himself, nor Madikizela-Mandela, neither Zuma, who is embroiled in a scandal after fathering a child in an adulterous relationship.

Yesterday I saw a book that was titled “Photographs of nelson mandela.” The book (which I never bought) never mentioned anything about the time in which he ordered the bombing of a radio station. They never mention any of his faults. The media loves this guy so much that it makes me sick.

Mandela is just another terrorist that should have been hung back in the 80′s, unfortunately, the IMF/International Banking sector took a liking to him and saw he could be used as a tool to forward their agenda. One thing you have to remember about demons though, is they tend to have their own spawn from hell groupies at some point, enter Whiney Mandela. She was charged with 87 counts of fraud, extortion and theft as well as sexual abuse of minors and murder back in the late 80′s and early 90′s. Of course Nelson, pardoned her and made her minister of culture, go figure huh? Now you know why SA is a bloody mess. The politics of corruption (ANC) think that having a muti-making psycho bitch from hell is a good and reasonable representative for the “general population” (a term used in prisons). Whiney was also banned from entering Canada a little while back. Up until about 2 years ago, Nelson was on the terrorist watch list with the FBI, Whiney probably was as well. But then after Mandela, you had your do-nothing Mbeki with his BEE and AA, and now your machine-gun-totting Zuma, what do you think will happen next? With the Whiney Mandela’s, the dumb-f**k Mbeki’s and Zuma’s, and that thing from the ANCYL, I see big trouble on the horizon. Everyone should just stop paying taxes, stop feeding the corrupt machine!
