North Carolina State Senator, R.C. Soles, Jr., has been indicted for shooting one of two intruders at his home last August.

Police say Soles shot 22-year-old Kyle Blackburn in the leg Aug. 23 at the senator’s Tabor City home. Soles has said he was acting in self-defense after Blackburn and another man tried to kick in the door of his home.

The 17-term Democrat faces 15- to 31-months in prison if convicted.

Soles has made a career of advocating against gun ownership for the general public, an ironic fact that has been picked up by pro-gun proponents.

Wrote one pro-gun advocate about the incident:

In typical hypocritical liberal fashion, the “Do As I Say And Not As I Do” Anti-Gun Activist Lawmaker picked up his gun and took action in what apparently was a self-defense shooting. Why hypocritical you may ask? It is because his long legislative record shows that the actions that he took to protect his family, his own response to a dangerous life threatening situation, are actions that he feels ordinary citizens should not have if they were faced with an identical situation.

A former law client says he molested as a boy by Soles.

This is not the first time the 74-year-old Democrat has had to defend himself against attackers. Soles, who has a law practice in Tabor City, has recently had a number of run-ins with clients and ex-clients. He was forced to pepper-spray former client Stacey Scott when the man appeared at Soles’ home. Scott claims he was molested when he was 15 years old by Soles, a charge that is still being investigated.

Another client, 16-year-old Allen Strickland, trespassed on the Senator’s property on two separate occasions over the last few weeks, and stole a light fixture.

The charges could also affect Soles’ legal career, as the North Carolina State Bar can disbar a lawyer if he commits a criminal act that “reflects adversely on the lawyer’s honesty, trustworthiness or fitness as a lawyer in other respects.”

Soles says he will not be seeking re-election this year.

I know he is basically a rat in hamster's clothing but if he followed the law, then he deserves the correct form of justice. If he lied about the circumstances involving the shooting, then justice should prevail.

yeah…you're both right. @Rosemary and Don S…Cooler heads….I do admire that trait..or gift? Myself…I sometimes am led by emotions…Especially when it comes to hypocritical bigotry—NOT a good trait at all.

I reject the assertion that the Senator was "anti-gun" or that the Democratic party is "anti-gun". Just like we advocate for sensible laws and regulations on Wall street we do the same for guns. Why is it that Conservatives always want to paint everything as either black or white…pro or against? Where is the nuance? Why can't we support gun rights but still advocate for sensible restrictions?

Yes it is hypocritical, but if he is not guilty and I were in the jury box, I’d find him ‘not guilty’. Even though he may not agree with me that I have God-given rights, doesn’t mean I am able to ignore his. Just wish they could see things this way…

    LMAO.
    Seth, you’re losing it.

You can’t understand why people don’t want restrictions on their rights?!?!?

Talk about wrapping up a whole ideology in one line.

  6. expertman says

Obviously he is a hypocrite. Will he change his stance as a result of this? Of course not. He is a hypocrite, remember?

I agree with Seth, also I am incarerated in an Asylum at this time!

  8. andycanuck says

How about changing the headline to read “Anti-gun Dem Indicted For Shooting”? Who wants to play ‘name that party’ at a conservative blog.

And as Jeff has hinted, it doesn’t work that way in real life, Seth, or else the Canadian (former) Liberal government wouldn’t have spent $2-billion Canadian registering hunters’ and farmers’ long arms when they’re not used by gang-bangers in Toronto or Vancouver.

To Edgame, expertman, and andycanuk: Based on your reaction to Seth, I assume that you think you have the right to own a Sidewinder Missle, and M1 tank and a dirty bomb. Consequently, I think believe it would be adisiable to lock you up in the same asylum with Jeff from Torontostan so I don’t have to build a bomb shelter.

I LOVE IT WHEN PEOPLE LIKE GLEN SHOWS ME THAT HE ISN'T WELL VERSED IN THE SUBJECT OF FIREARMS AND THE SECOND AMENDMENT. IT IS A WELL KNOWN FACT THAT WHEN A PERSON MAKES SUCH REMARKS THEY ARE EITHER (1) NIEVE, (2) BEHIND THE 8 BALL, OR (3) HAVEN'T STUDIED ENOUGH ON THE MEANING OF THE 2ND AMENDMENT AS OUR FOUNDING FATHERS MEANT IT TO BE.

Well, there you go. Whoever said Congress, or the Law Makers or the application of the law, was sensible!
