Össur Skarphéðinsson and Barack Obama
Chairman of Global Economics David Hale suggested in a Financial Times article today that Barack Obama should reopen the US military base in Iceland for housing detainees currently held in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
The US military closed the base in Keflavík back in 2006 after more than 60 years of having a presence there. The property was handed back to the Icelandic government and sections of it have since been refitted to house University of Iceland students.

Hale proposes the US should cover Iceland’s Icesave debt in exchange for facilitating the prisoners, and that the Icelandic banks would be part of the bailout package from the US government, visir.is reports.
The cost would be minimal for American taxpayers, Hale reasoned, as it would only be part of the US government’s profits from stocks in Goldman Sachs.
Hale writes the exchange would be a win-win for both sides: Obama would finally have a place to hold detainees after promising to shut Gitmo down, while Iceland would benefit due to the fact that no country that plays host for an American base has ever gone into insolvency.

Something stinks about that picture..To see those two all smiley faced makes me gravely ill to my stomach. One thing that is sure though. If something has Obama attached to it? Unfortunately it is tainted from the get-go.

Wanda less then 1% of the icelandic population is muslim it’s somwherer around 0.3% and real islamophobia is in Icleand unlike muslim lovijng uk and usa , it´s very common to hear people say on radio and in public that they want islam banned and muslims deported and muslims are considered outsiders by Icelanders and generally hated
