US Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has apologized for racially-sensitive remarks he made about Barack Obama during the 2008 presidential campaign.
The Nevada Democrat described Obama as “light-skinned” and “with no negro dialect” to reporters during the campaign.
Reid’s comments are to be published in Mark Halperin and John Heilemann’s new book “Game Change.” The remarks appeared in published excerpts on The Atlantic’s website.
“I deeply regret using such a poor choice of words. I sincerely apologize for offending any and all Americans, especially African-Americans for my improper comments,” Reid said in a statement. “I was a proud and enthusiastic supporter of Barack Obama during the campaign and have worked as hard as I can to advance President Obama’s legislative agenda.”
Obama has accepted Reid’s apology, saying, saying “As far as I am concerned, the book is closed.”

Reid has to keep his head buried deep up ohbummers ass…. His bank account depends on it.
Are there no politicians with a backbone anymore?
Why should he apologize for the truth? Obama doesn't talk n-ggerish. Also, he doesn't have that flat nose and those small edrs and he doesn't say AXE for ASK!!
It is always interesting (and sometimes shocking) to read of politicians speaking their real beliefs and then they find out it has been reported, which inevitably leads to a backtracking statement to avoid political suicide. Mr. Reid’s retraction indicates the kind of cynical stance that breaches the publicly- presented-facade every once in a while. This, of course, is something that happens with both major parties, but it is doubly pointed in this case as Mr. Obama is a member of Mr. Reids own party…….nice.
It wasn’t a “poor choice of words” if that is what he really believes. I don’t think that describing Barack Obama during the presidential election as a “black candidate who would benefit from his “light-skinned” appearance and speaking patterns “with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one” could be spoken with ANY words that could be considered “well chosen”.
As to “improper”, does he mean improper that it got out into the public who would obviously see the impropriety, or, improper because it reflects a massive character flaw in Mr. Reid that he would characterize a very well spoken (much more so than Harry Reid in my opinion) African American man as being without a “Negro dialect” (is this guy in the same century as the rest of the country?).
All of this begs an important question. When he says, “I was a proud and enthusiastic supporter of Barack Obama during the campaign and have worked as hard as I can to advance President Obama’s legislative agenda, “ was it because, in part, Barak Obama was “a black candidate who would benefit from his “light-skinned” appearance and speaking patterns “with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one”?
He needs to do a lot more apologizing, like for betraying the American people.
What is to apologize for? He’s right!! OB doesn’t even tap dance!!
you should hear the parody song, “Barack The Magic Negro Lives In DC “which was going around.
I believe that what reid needs to do is stop kissing up to the foreign occupier.
TRP will continue to fight this kind of bigotry and racist hatred! We will not countence this ignorant hatred! We will demand that this hater step down from the Senate! He has soiled the office of Senator!!! Liberal hypocricsy on display once again! Reid, get out NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All those indignant lefists morons who post on this site and call everyone “racist”, notice not one has posted demanding Reid step down? How do you spell “Hypocrite”? L-I-B-E-R-A-L!!!!!
Hey, “light skinned negro”. sounds just like the argument that they used to use against Apartheid in Suid Afrika! Different levels of Bantu ness! Wow! What a racist!! And Reid and the rest of the hypocrites re; liberals, used call for the destruction of Suid Afrika’s Boer government! How does it feel to have the shoe on the other foot, phonies!
I hated Reid long before this. This is nothing more than a distraction. The only thing that Reid needs to be remembered for is his part in the health care sham. He'll be voted out of office this year and then, like all the others voted out or quit, will be placed into lobbying positions or other well taken care of government "jobs".
Even more damning was that he said he had no negro accent unless he wanted to. Like Hillary Clinton, the First Sultan can affect a "negro accent" when he wants to…
