The South African tribe which Nelson Mandela comes from plans to break away from the government and will be creating its own state in 2010.
King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo of the AbaThembu tribe gave notice after he was found guilty of arson, kidnapping, culpable homicide, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, and well as defeating the ends of justice by a South African court in a case stemming from a 1995 incident that happened on his farm.
The incident involved a series of violence altercations against his subjects in the Tyhalara area in the early 1990s, during which a woman and children were kidnapped, homes burned and youths assaulted, of whom one died.
The Xhosa monarch, who is also a former Umkhonto we Sizwe operative, was sentenced to 15 years in prison by the court.

Lawyers for King Dalindyebo who published a press release announcing the secession movement called on the South African government to drop the charges against their client, a public apology from South African president Jacob Zuma, and pay him R900 million (USD $119,500,457) in compensation.
If these demands are not met, the tribe will start to secede from South Africa. The AbaThembu claim 60% of the land legitimately belongs to them, including the KwaZulu Natal, Western Cape, Eastern Cape and Northern Cape provinces, as well as parts of the Freestate and Gauteng. They also claim 10 million members, approximately a quarter of the population of South Africa.
The new country will be called “Thembuland”.
They then concluded by saying that the clan will choose a certain day to be declared a ‘National Day of Siege’ during which they will burn the national flag and their membership cards of the ANC.
An ANC spokesman allegedly dismissed the notice as a joke.
King Dalindyebo has previously accused Nelson Mandela, who belongs to the tribe, of leading a group of ANC officials in a “ coup” to dethrone him in 2002.
