Despite reports that the Obama White House Christmas Tree is festooned with decorations of Chinese Communist leader Mao Tse Tung and a drag queen, those with a knowledge of dendrology believe the story to be Christmas Fool’s joke on conservatives.
News of the Obama Administration’s White House Christmas Tree decorated with Communist and alternative-lifestyle ornaments has been carried by conservative media outlets Big Government and Fox News. The fact that Simon Doonan, who has used the famous Christmas window at Barney’s New York to make his left-wing political feelings known, was chosen to decorate the White House tree this year certainly gives the story merit.
Proof that the tree features the ornaments, featuring Chairman Mao, drag queen Hedda Lettuce and even one of Obama’s head on Mount Rushmore, has been furnished in the form of photographs, which have been shown in the reports. However, say the skeptics, it is those very close-up shots that prove the story is false.
The White House chose a Fraser Fir as its official Christmas Tree this year. Fraser firs are noted for their distinctly-rounded tips. Meanwhile, the close-up photos of the controversial ornaments do not show those same, distinctly-rounded tips, and more closely resemble those of a Douglas Fir.
Further proof confriming the validity of the the ornament story has fallen into question, after drag queen Hedda Lettuce, who bragged about having his/her face on the White House Christmas Tree in a blog post earlier this week, has now written a cryptic entry on how homosexuals are habitual liars.
“Gay people are born liars,” Hedda wrote today. “[….] We were trained at a very early age that telling the truth was very likely to get us into trouble with the people around us [….]”
UPDATE #1: It has been confirmed that the Christmas Tree in question is the so-called “Blue Room” tree and is in fact a Douglas Fir. “We took about 800 ornaments left over from previous administrations, we sent them to 60 local community groups throughout the country, and asked them to decorate them to pay tribute to a favorite local landmark and then send them back to us for display here at the White House,” Michelle Obama is quoted as saying in an official White House press release.
UPDATE #2: New theories include a forgery of the photographs circulated with the Obama Tree news reports. Another photo of the Blue Room Tree shows it is pretty well roped off, so perhaps someone bribed a Secret Service agent to get a close-up shot of the ornaments in question.
UPDATE #3: It has been confirmed that the controversial “Mao” ornament contains a reproduction of Andy Warhol’s 1973 painting “Mao” which is at the Art institute of Chicago (http://www.artic.edu/aic/collections/artwork/47149). An educated guess would indicate that the ornament is a link to the Obama’s Chicago home and the Art Institute. While some can argue that it’s not an ornament of Mao, but an Andy Warhol ornament instead, there is an image of The Great Wall of China on the ornament.
