Democrat Congressman from Alabama, Parker Griffith, announced today that he will switch sides from Democrat to Republican.
The 67-year-old Griffith will become the first Republican to represent the 5th Congressional District in Alabama, which includes Huntsville and Decatur. Griffith narrowly won re-election last year.
In a press conference announcing the switch, Griffith said he could no longer align himself “with a party that continues to pursue legislation that is bad for our country, hurts our economy and drives us further and further into debt.”
“Unfortunately there are those in the Democratic Leadership that continue to push an agenda focused on massive new spending, tax increases, bailouts and a health care bill that is bad for our healthcare system,” Griffith said. “I have always considered myself to be an independent voice and I have tried to be that voice in Congress – but after watching this agenda firsthand I now believe that the differences in the two parties could not be more clear and that for me to be true to my core beliefs and values I must align myself with the Republican party and speak out clearly on these issues.”
Virginia Rep. Eric Cantor, the No. 2 Republican in the House, hailed Griffith’s move from a large majority to a small minority as proof that the Democrats have become “completely disconnected from seniors, young workers and and families in America.”
Liberals countered that Griffith was essentially a Republican all along, and Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), the chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, said he should give back the money Democrats have contributed to his campaign.

Hey lookie, we now have a moderate Republican. Kool.
Kudos to you Congressman….you have my vote.
Thank God!!! I’ve been praying that God would wake up some Democrats to realize what evil is lurking about in the current agenda. I know many Christians who are praying for this and I consider this an answer to prayer. Not only is the the health care bill not good for our Country and the economy, but it is not Constitutional and I continue praying more Democrats would wake up and see the truth.
@Petra
The Health Care Bill not Constitutional? Humpf. Petra, have you actually ever read the Constitution? Please show me the part that the health care bill violates. I am waiting with baited breath.
Naturally, there’s a big Liberal/Marxist media blackout on this story. Gee, I wonder why.
The writing is on the wall…..MaoBama is taking down his own Party, and, as a result, there will be more Democraps defecting to the Republican Party in order to save their asses because it’s just 10 months before the voters take back their country from the America-hating Marxists.
(Griffith said he could no longer align himself “with a party that continues to pursue legislation that is bad for our country, hurts our economy and drives us further and further into debt).”
Hmm guess he forgot that it was a REPUBLICAN administration who put this country into debt. Paying BILLIONS of dollars for an illegitimate, immoral war in Iraq! This was the beginning of our money problems. Republicans never met an earmark, or a pork barrel project, they didn’t like when they were in the majority. HYPOCRITES!!
@Pat
It is a bipartisan problem that can be traced back to the Trueman administration, and while Ike, Kennedy and Nixon seemed to get a grasp on it, Reagan and so called Reaganomics where the government cut taxes (for the rich) yet exponentially increases spending shot it up again. Clinton tried to get a handle on it but the balanced budget amendment was defeated due to political infighting. One step forward two backward, Bush Jr.’s war against the wrong people and the deficit shot up like a junkie with a hit of heroin. Obama has even topped that with his stimulus package.

We need a government and a government administration that will get serious on spending more than it makes. So far this is neither the Democrats or the Republicans.
It's TRUMAN, there is no "e'! And he was a traitor who caused the deaths of MILLIONS at Pottsdam. This scumbag gave us our problems with N.Korea when he stabbed MacAurthur in the back! This little weasel was scared shitless of his wife so he took it out on Mac to make himself look like a man! He was a small town political hack, and that was ALL he was! FDR didn't even tell him about the A Bomb, that's how little he thought of this hack!
Perhaps its time for a USNP, ala the UK BNP, that can tackle not only the crazy spending but also the black crime problem, by banishing all blacks back to Africa, where they are so proud to come from.
There is nothing in the Constitution that says that you have to BUY anything. It is based on INVOLUTARY SURVITUDE. That is what came out of the War of Northern Agression. Because Lincoln the GREAT IMITATOR sought to keep taxing the South unfairly, we had a Civil War. Buying into the Foreign Occupier’s Planned Genocide of White People via legislated death, is illegal! The government cannot force you into anything that is against your will. Even during the draft people could be exempted via conciencious objection to war as it went against their morality. Are liberals really THAT stupid and ignorant? Ans: YES!!
You actually think that the Civil war was caused by taxation Frank? Recorded history would seem to disagree with you, it was more complex than that.. It's Christmas Eve so I won't give you another history lesson.
Trueman is usually ranked in the top ten best Presidents. Certainly better than any GOP hack in the last 50 years. Lincoln needs no defense for the likes of you.
Ho Ho Ho Merry Christmas.
Frank: Macarthur was not told about the bomb either until the weekend before it was used over Japan.
