South African Right-Wing “Cult” Arrested

terrorism_291685South African police have arrested five people ranging in age from 64 to 17 in what is being called a “right-wing cult.”

The five arrested, Johan Pretorius, 30, ex-cop and the alleged cult priest Peter White, 45, Jan Roodt, 64, Linda Coertze, 44, and a 17-year-old youth, were arrested after have a fight amongst themselves over an unreported conflict. They were charged with attempted murder, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of illegal firearms. Police say the group were also in possession of “racist” literature at the time of their arrest.

The group. known as the Jesurun Brotherhood, refused to be touched or questioned by Black officers. They also refused to eat food offered by Blacks while in police custody.

“They believe black people come from the devil and are therefore evil,” said Hawks spokesman Musa Zondi.

Zonda also said the group continued to fight amongst themselves and laid accusations against each other while in custody.

According to the Rapport newspaper, the Jesurun Brotherhood allegedly has links to the Suidlanders group, which believes all White people in South Africa will be killed in a race war when Nelson Mandela dies. Mainstream news reports tie the Suidlanders to the Boeremag, although no concrete connection has ever been made between the two groups.

Rapport said they had several secret cells across the country, as far as Bela Bela in Limpopo province.

While mainstream news outlets are reporting the name of the group as The Jessurum Brotherhood, an online copy of their manifesto, called Dimensions of Apartheid, lists the group as The Jesurun Brotherhood.

Nothing is known about the mysterious group that has suddenly come to media attention, although it is strongly believed the group is part of a government scheme to silence right-wing dissent in South Africa, as evidenced by the government crackdown on dissident bloggers from early November. This can be evidenced by using the name “Johan Pretorius” as the author of Dimensions of Apartheid, a possible ruse to confuse the group with other, legitimate right-wing groups in South Africa. As a result, The Right Perspective has chosen not to link to their website and cautions readers to not search for website, visit it or download any materials from it.

Zondi said they were still investigating the cult and no charges had been laid against them in connection with their beliefs yet. All five members appeared in court Friday and were released on R6000 bail. They remain under house arrest and will face trial in January.
