Lebanese pop star Haifa Wehbe is apologizing for calling Nubian Egyptians “monkeys” in her new song.
“Where is my teddy bear and the Nubian monkey?,” are lyrics in the hit Where’s Daddy?.
“She has denigrated an entire community of people,” Egyptian Nubian Adul Raouf Mohammed told The UK Guardian. “Now some of our children are afraid to go into school because they know they will be called monkeys in the playground.”
Wehbe says an Egyptian wrote the song for her and she was not aware of the social implications found in the songs lyrics.
There are about 2 million Nubians living in Egypt. Although descended from an ancient African civilization, they are regarded as second-class citizens in Egypt.

It's an insult to monkeys!!
I don’t know about the nubians but Haifa looks pretty hot.
Yeah I’d ride it too!
She can denigrate me anytime!
