A Swiss referendum on the banning of minarets, the spiraling towers used by Muslims for their call to prayer, has passed with an overwhelming majority by voters Saturday.
The vote follows projections from several polling agencies that swung wildly from 39-percent a week ago, to 60% for the actual vote. Because the initiative got more than 50-percent of the vote, it will become a constitutional amendment.
The issue of minarets has been seized upon by the far-right Swiss People’s Party, which is the largest party in parliament. The party claims the increasing number of minarets in the country symbolizes a growing Muslim population that will eventually turn Switzerland into an Islamic state.
Currently, Muslims compromise only 6-percent of Switzerland’s population of 7.5 million, with many having arrived as refugees from the Yugoslav wars of the 1990’s. The government says only 13-percent actually practice their religion, and minarets do not broadcast the call to prayer as they do elsewhere.
The seven-member Cabinet that heads the Swiss government has spoken out strongly against the initiative, and local officials and rights defenders objected to campaign posters showing minarets rising like missiles from the Swiss flag next to a fully veiled woman.
Swiss politicians also fear a backlash from their Muslim population and strained relations with Islamic countries.
The four existing minarets in Switzerland will not be affected by Saturday’s vote.

I thought I’d heard it all when we waged wars against “Terror”…. but now we have an entre country at battle with an architectural detail. Banning a “symbol” to which they themselves attributed the symbology!

It’s so refreshing and encouraging to hear that a European country is finally putting limits to the ever-increasing islamization of Europe. If only THIS country (America) had the political will to do so. I say it’s encouraging because Europe is very Liberal-minded, however, the great silent majority is finally waking up to the enemy amongst them as the muslim invasion encroaches and slowly transforms those countries into the primitive shitholes from whence they came. Muslims do NOT assimilate and adopt their adopted countries’ traditions, language, and culture. On the contrary, the muslims try to force THEIR way of life upon the countries they infest. America also needs to wake up before it’s too late.
BTW, the article says that many of the muislim invaders are from the Balkans (former Yugoslavia). Those people are Albanians. They succeeded in tearing apart the province of Kosovo from Serbia only because they reached critical mass there, they wanted to break away to form their own country, they engaged in terrorism, they started a war, and the world acquiesced. What they did to Kosovo will be repeated over and over all across Europe and America once they reach critical mass in those countries. They will use Europe’s and America’s laws and freedoms as weapons against us.
As it is, there are already huge Albanian muslim populations in cities across America as a result of the huge refugee invasion from Clinton’s phony “Wag The Dog” war against Serbia. BTW, Albania fought AGAINST us in WWII (they were part of the Axis Alliance…the Albanian ex-pats in the Balkans fought alongside the Nazis, as well), while Serbia was an ALLY. Over the last 50 years, we have allowed the Liberal stormtroopers and the Marxist politicians to transform this world into a real-life Alice In Wonderland where up is down.

Freedom of Religion is a fundamental Human right, and the Swiss have given themselves a black eye with this one. However, where is the mention in the world media regarding the total ban on the practice of ANY other religion in Saudi Arabia and their strict curtailment in other Muslim countries? (that includes the prohibition on building any other religion’s “churches” in these countries). Speaking publicly about Christianity, Judiasm or any other religion will land you in jail. No religious symbols other than those of the Muslim faith are allowed public display (even private display can get you prison time) It is against the law for a Muslim to convert to any other religion. I guess my question is “what are the Muslims afraid of?”
It is not mere “symbolism”, it is a step forward in proclaiming a Christian nation, as they have their Mahometan nations. Why didn’t that jerkoff ask how come Churches are banned in Mahomaten nations? Where are the churches in Saudi Arabia, or Afghanistan?
