A massive divide along racial lines on the approval of Barack Obama’s performance as US president has surfaced, reports polling organization Gallup.
At the start of Feb ‘09, 80% of Non-Whites and 61% of Non-Hispanic Whites approved of Obama. Today, 73% of Non-Whites and 39% of Non-Hispanic Whites approve of what Obama is doing in office.
This translates into a 22-point drop in support for Obama among Whites, while only a 7-point drop among Non-Whites.
Obama’s support among African-Americans remains steadfast, averaging at 93% for every week he has been in office. His support among Blacks has never gone under 90%.
Even party affiliation does not obscure the racial divide. 87% of White Democrats and 90% of Non-White Democrats supported Obama at the start of his presidency. Today, 76% of White Democrats and 92% of Non-White Democrats support Obama.
99% of African-Americans and 44% of Non-Hispanic Whites voted for Obama in the 2008 US Presidential Election, according to Gallup.
