Brazil president Lula da Silva said Thursday that “gringos” must pay Amazon nations to prevent deforestation, insisting that rich, Western countries have are at fault for the deteriorating condition of the rain forest.
“I don’t want any gringo asking us to let an Amazon resident die of hunger under a tree,” Silva said. “We want to preserve, but they will have to pay the price for this preservation because we never destroyed our forest like they mowed theirs down a century ago.”
Da Silva used the anti-European slur during a speech at an Amazon summit designed to gather a consensus ahead of the Copenhagen summit, slated to start Dec. 7th.

The Amazon summit had a lukewarm response, as only Guyana’s Bharrat Jagdeo and France’s Nicolas Sarkozy, representing French Guiana, attended. Other nations sent vice presidents or ministers, and the presidents of Colombia and Venezuela embarrassed Brazil by canceling at the last minute.
Da Silva conceded his efforts will have a muted effect, but that it was important to make known that the Amazon is home to 30 million people, most of whom depend on the forest’s natural riches to eke out a living. About 25 million live in Brazil’s portion, which has about 60 percent of the Amazon, an area larger than Western Europe.

I would like to see the entire rain forest plowed under. Then maybe plant some wheat or corn. That way they will see that agriculture, rather than shaking down western nations is the way to progress.
Please don’t use the G Word for non spanish speakers. Gringo is as offensive as nigger. It is divisive as any racial or ethinic slur. So, it’s alright to call White People the G Word, but any other non White group has to be “respected”? A bunch of half assed savages who never reached the Stone Age and we have to kow tow to them?
