Chocolate Santa
Parents at a Garyville, Louisiana middle school are up in arms over a flier promoting an African-American man who has called himself “Chocolate Santa” for the last 39 years.
“My child keeps asking, ‘Mom, how am I going to have a Christmas?,’” asks Tonia Marzilla, whose bi-racial nephew attends the St. John Child Development Center, where Chocolate Santa is scheduled to appear. “They don’t have a Santa for me? My brother’s got a Black Santa, my other brother’s got a White Santa, do they have another color Santa for me?”
“My children didn’t see a Black Santa Claus, or a Chocolate Santa Clause,” said another upset parent, Linda Waguespack. “They’re sending mixed messages to the children.”

“Color shouldn’t matter,” say the upset parents.
“I do it for the kids,” says the African-American man who has played Chocolate Santa for nearly 40 years. He started the tradition in an effort to give Black children positive role models.
The superintendent of schools said that, after looking into the matter, the statement made on the flier was inappropriate. He said that the district, as a whole, advocates respect and academic excellence and he regrets that anyone was offended.
The principal of the school said he is considering canceling next week’s visit.
Chocolate Santa says he is the one who put the title on the flier, not the school, and is willing to drop the “Chocolate” from his moniker if necessary.
“It isn’t going to be easy,” Chocolate Santa added with a heart-broken “ho-ho-ho.”
I will never take my child to see a black santa, a chocolate santa, a negro santa, an African-American santa, a bi-racial santa or any Santa that isn’t WHITE which is the color that GOD meant Santa to be.
What about Ray Nagin and his pining for a “chocolate city?” I thought choclate would have been considered and “in” term…

Actually, the popular version of Santa which we know was created by the Coca-Cola company back in the early 20th century through an ad campaign, which popularized the Santa image we know today. That said, Christmas is a hybridization of Christian and pagan beliefs. We are to celebrate the miraculous death and ressurection of Jesus Christ. God never intended for a race specific Santa, because Santa hasn’t his roots in the Bible. He’s a creation of man.
That said, I don’t care what color Santa is. If people want to get away from racial labels and identity, then a color label hung on one Santa over another shouldn’t be an issue as Santa ought not be identified as one race or another.
To a kid, Santa is just plain Santa. It’s we adults who have the hangups about what ethnicity he should be.

It was Saint Nicholas, a Greek bishop and white man who was the model for Santa Claus. Coca Cola did not create the popular version. A classic version of Santa Claus, drawn in 1863 for Harper’s Weekly by the great German American cartoonist was the first. And it was he not CC that popularized it.
Oh children are aware of Santa’s color. The article quotes children. And if that wasn’t the case why would the black Santa be doing it for the black “CHILLRENNNN”?

Just another example of “Aryan” whites taking other people’s tradition i.e. co-opting and claiming it as their own. They then have the audacity to get offended if anyone other ethnic group represents the main figures of the tradition. The Santa Claus character is derived from the Dutch tradition of SinterKlass and his equally important helper Zwarte Piet i.e. Black Pete. Do your research by googling “Sinter Klass.” The parents interviewed present typically racist ideology which is shrouded in the assertion race doesn’t matter. To them it really doesn’t…as long the character in question is depicted as white. Do the research and you will find that “Aryan” whites have very little cultural history of their own. I ,as a boy never saw or heard of Santa being anything but caucasian. It was only in the late 60s and 70s that santa and Jesus began being showing up being black. Now I am in my 60s I am still offended by all the idotic race conscious adults trying to change Santa’s identiy to allegedly make their own race of their children be represented by having santa be black,brown etc. The next thing we will see is a Jihad santa with “gifts” around his body so he can have a blast on Christmas. Santa Claus is in the image of God- WHITE. There is a direct line that can be drawn from Noah to King David who was the first man that there is a description of in the Bible. He had red hair and a whitish complexion- definately white. All others in the ark except his wife, were the Beasts of the Wilderness- in Afrikaans- Dier Van Die Veldt. They have wool instead of hair, skin the color and texture of beasts, wide flat noses that look like snouts of wild beasts and lips like wolves. Santa Claus was made by God in his image- WHITE.

To Philoctetes and everyone who agrees with him- no child cares what color santa is! Just like with Jesus- all races identify with Santa (or Jesus) being the same race they are. Jesus was a Jew- that is a historical fact. The “white man” that you identify with isn’t from Jewish decent, I’m sure- probably north European blonde, blue eye, etc…. In case we forgot, Santa was made up and the Santa that our children have today isn’t a real person… he can be whatever color the kids want him to be. People just need to tell their kids that the Santa’s you see on the street are Santa’s helpers and all kids will be just FINE!
I would never bring my children to go see any santa claus simply because that CHRISTmas is supposed to be aboout celebrating the birth of of Jesus Christ. It is not suppsed to be about some fat guy going from house to house with flying reindeers and bring gifts to kids. Read your bible some time.
To be “inclusive” we now see our cultural heritage being stolen from us. This includes making one of the Three Musketters black on the candy bar commercial a few years back. And in the remake of “Robin Hood” with snooze Kevin Costner Morgan Freeman played the brilliant Moor who laughed at the ignorant White peasants. So to be fair and inclusive I propose the “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” be made with a White Uncle Tom. After all Whites were enslaved by N.Afrikan negro pirates who did it to over 3,000, 000 Whites. Santa Claus is White. Jesus was White, as was all of the Apostles. Yes, he did have blonde hair and blue eyes.
