Africa Should Apologize for Slave Trade

A Nigerian civil rights group has written an open letter to African chieftains calling for an apology for their role in the slave trade to America.

“We cannot continue to blame the white men, as Africans particularly the traditional rulers, are not blameless,” said the Civil Rights Congress.

The group calls on traditional African rulers to fess up to their forefathers’ actively collaborating with European slave-traders and “put a final seal to the history of slave trade”.

Civil Rights Congress president Shehu Sani says they are calling for this apology because traditional rulers are seeking inclusion in the forthcoming constitutional amendment in Nigeria.

“We felt that for them to have the moral standing to be part of our constitutional arrangement there are some historical issues for them to address,” he told the BBC World Service.

    LMWAO!

You have to have a conscience or shame or guilt to be able to offer an apology.
This guy is going to wind up meeting someone’s favorite machete if he tries this manure.

We have always known the role Africans and Arabs played in the slave trade. It has been a political strategy by the democratic party bosses to blame whites and particularly southern whites for it. The democrats political strategy has worked well for them providing them with a perpetual angry victim, dependent on the plantation, the Democratic Politicians who vote to “take care of them”. It was international slave trade and it still goes on in Africa and Indonesia. Obama should apologize for the African-Arabs role in enslaving people of color.

    I beg to differ.

What markers do traditional rulers have to show that they were more involved in European slave-traders than the rest of the Nigerians or Africans? Even without evidence on my part, I can almost guess without fail that there is no tangible evidence for Civil Rights Congress to exclude any part of the Nigerian community from the democratic process of their own government.

For the Nigerian Constitution that is concerned about morality, if that is the case, what does the Civil Rights Congress say about the moral standing of the Nigerians who have been involved in Internet scams that have destroyed people’s lives all over the Universe: who owes the apology and who shall be excluded from the democratic debates as a result of this moral turpitude?

A good moral standard is not a metre for involvement in slave-trade alone, it calibrates several other activities in a community within which it operates. What do you think Mr. Sani?

As communities, we reflect what is the norm or custom in that community, but individually, we remain responsible for what we do. Yes, No, Mr. Sani? Individually we “fess up” to our crimes or misgivings. In fact, we see in this article a face of corruption that typifies most African communities to hunt down family members for a crime committed by one or few family members. I remember in my native Lesotho where if one family member of the Congress or National party had committed a crime, the entire family was punished for his ( in those days a man would have most likely been the primary culprit) actions. Innocent family members of the Makhele and Seheri were shot like targets at one Thaba-Tseka highest pinnacle for “crimes”committed by one of their family members. This is the climax of the ideology Mr. Sani Congress is selling and it is misguided.

In fact, I very much align myself with Bishop Desmond Tutu view of Truth and Reconciliation commission where perpetrators of crime were to meet with specific victims. If you have been involved in slave trade and realize your errors, please ask for an apology, it is a wonderful thing to do. Why are you mobilizing your entire family into your apology for your own sins?

I am not telling your “Civil Rights” what to do, but I would suggest that the one who owes you is the one whom you know by name and know how much he or she owes you. This transaction is the one which I think can be resolved by forgiveness or exchange of currency. Perhaps you are aware of this type of a transaction pending among traditional rulers and not among any of the Nigerian nationals. That being the case, you might have the moral standing to exclude from participation in their government….

With due respect to you and your organization,

    Victoria Sethunya.

When black Amerikaans go to live in Ghanna, they are called “White”. One such Amerikaan immigrant said: I’ve never been called “White” in my life”! NY Times story about the “back to Afrikaers”. In fact the article states that they are told by the natives that they are LUCKY their ancestors were taken to Amerika! Slavery was a fire sale. You don’t get rid of the best, but the hangers on, the losers, criminals, degenerates and useless. Yes, I agree wholeheartedly with him. Now, when are we going to get repartations for the two million Whites who were enslaved by the N.Afrikaan Mahometans who were black? The Barbary pirates were among the group. I want reparations for White people!

  8. klt says

Correction, “to accept,” not “do accept.” Sorry

Maybe America can get reparations from Nigeria to offset all the bullshit that racial arsonists like Sharpton and Jackson have perpetuated on the American people for the last 40 years.
