Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Salam Fayyad
US President Barack Obama has secretly agreed with Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Salam Fayyad to recognize an independent Palestinian state.
The Palestinian Authority Prime Minister is also seeking a new Security Council resolution to replace Resolutions 242 and 338 in a bid to win the international community’s support for the borders of a Palestinian state. The move might apply stronger pressure on Israel to withdraw from the West Bank.
Several Israeli officials said that Fayyad had spoken to them of positive responses he had received over the plan from prominent EU member states, including the UK, France, Spain and Sweden.
Concerns are growing in Israel’s government over the possibility of a unilateral Palestinian declaration of independence within the 1967 borders, a move which could potentially be recognized by the United Nations Security Council. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has recently asked the US administration to veto any such proposal.
Israeli sources said Netanyahu, who is expected to arrive in Washington on Sunday, earlier held talks with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and special Mideast envoy George Mitchell to persuade the US not to support the Palestinian proposal which could potentially be recognized by the United Nations Security Council.
President Obama has canceled a Tuesday speaking engagement with the United Jewish Communities General Assembly and instead will attend a memorial service for the American soldiers recently killed at Fort Hood, Texas.

Who really believes that if the Palestinians are GIVEN land to be used for their “country” then automatically their attacks on Israel will cease? I don’t even believe they want a state – they want to hurt Israel, and they see this as doing it.
OTOH, if it works out for them, I may get a group of people together and demand a spot of land on which to develop a new country. Isreal was supposed to give the Palestinians back thier land in the 1960’s, had they done so, we may not have seen so much violence over the past 50 years. As an Anti-Obama-ite and Republican, I have to appluad the Palestinians for thier persistance in wanting a state of thier own that they should have had all along. My only question is, who are the real terrorists? Are they the people stripped of thier land and identity and will persistantly fight for it or are they the aggressors who want them removed from thier land at all costs? hmmmm…maybe the American Indians should fight for state of thier own, I can’t say that they weren’t deserving of it.
“That’s one small step for a man; one giant leap for mankind.” All that remains is FORCING Israel to abide by international law and return to its ‘67 borders. I would say ‘return to its original borders’ as authorized by the UN but of course, considering all the additional land siezed/stolen by Israel since that time, that would be impossible.
One other little incidental fact that the pro Israeli trash continues seems to avoid is that 700,000+ indigenous peoples were forced and/or driven from their homes in that UN authorized land durring the 1948 establishment of Israel. NOR were the locals ever consulted by the UN PRIOR to the UN arrangement. All these things we are expected to overlook when it comes to Israel and their endless security concerns.
So it is time to say to Israel “Get off the occupied territories and follow international law, NOW!” Why does israel make this so difficult? Asking them is no way to ever get a resolution.

The 2 state solution is dead. Hey Chosen People here are your choices. 1. Complete the ethnic cleansing that you started and remove/kill all Arabs from Greater Israel (having suffered a horribly holocaust yourselves I doubt you will resort to this). 2. Do nothing and create an apartheid state (worked really well for SA). 3. Give all Arabs the right to vote and treat them as equal citizens (shudder).

The Arabs who live in Israel already have the right to vote and they ARE treated as equal citizens. In fact, there are Arabs who hold seats in the Israeli Knesset (the legislative branch of the Israeli government that enacts laws). No such privilege is given to the few Jews who live in muslim countries.
