The arrest of conservative South African blogger Uhuru Guru points to a larger campaign by the country’s ruling ANC Party on political dissidents before the upcoming World Cup Games next year.
The last few days before the blogger’s arrest also saw a movement by anonymous posters on Litnet, part of Media24, against crime reports placed by his blog South Africa Sucks (SAS), usually accompanied by commentary.
Lawyers for the Afrikaner, who blogs under the pseudonym “Uhuru Guru” due to business reasons, believe there were deliberate attempts to slow the legal process to lengthen the period he could be legally held. While the charges were not clear, crimen injuria (libel) was mentioned in court and a 1993 incident where one of Uhuru Guru’s employees hid stolen goods on his property (value of few hundred rand, so at most probably US $200). The original case was withdrawn 16 years ago, and the State Prosecutor threw the case out earlier Thursday.
Uhuru Guru’s lawyers claim police found the 19-year-old case on a database and used it as and excuse for his arrest. The heavy-handed tactics used and the line of questioning during his arrest lead his lawyers to believe the entire case was politically motivated.
Afrikans-language website PRAAG found out from an ANC source that White Afrikaners in the South African police force are under transformation-pressure to justify their own budgets by spying on fictitious right-wing dangers. The police, which acted against Uhuru Guru, were almost all White Afrikaners reporting directly to head office and not local police station.
The blogger’s lawyer said the police gave a sinister impression similar to the old Security police of the National Party of the 1980’s. The attorney said he was leftist then and he probably would still be, if it were not for the rude awakening he experienced in so-called “new” South Africa. He dealt with Security police then and they had the same attitude then as now – they could do whatever they wanted.
Dr. Dan Roodt of PRAAG said there are no ties between his website and SAS. While SAS has a focus on crime and race issues in a somewhat politically-incorrect and sometimes shocking manner, PRAAG remains an independant, general online paper reporting on various issues in a decent manner. Even though SAS also carries truth, their approach is more arrogant and upfront (maybe even aggressive). But it is Uhuru Guru’s right to do so, if South Africa is really a democracy with freedom of speech. Recent events places doubt on the label of liberal democracy claimed in South Africa.
Dr Roodt remains positive that alternative Afrikaans media will survive the onslaught. “The ANC is a power hungry monster which doesn’t allow alternative views or speech against it. The movement originated in eastern Europe where totalitarian regimes governed all aspects of society. That’s why PRAAG’s server is in the USA where freedom of speech and protection is enjoyed. Neither ANC nor Security police can silence PRAAG. Even if everybody is put in jail, we have people in overseas countries who can continue the online sites and blogs and keep on publishing,” Dr. Roodt said.

What a letdown!

This is very shocking for me as a South African! I follow news on Praag and other websites because the media is, sad to say, controlled by the government (and other organisations if you believe the conspiracy theories). I live in Vryburg, North West, and I know for a fact about stories in this area and Jan Kempdorp that has been kept silent by the media and government. So to get knowledge of ALL news and especially that which the government wants to keep quiet, it is necessary to look at news on websites like Praag, SA Sucks, etc.
For this person to be arrested is a clear indication of the dictatorial direction that the ANC is taking South Africa in. From what I have seen there have been no talk of militant action, treason or anything else on the websites that warrants this action by our “security forces”. Combine this with the talk of taking privately owned firearms, land invasions, the spate of farm attacks and not to mention the talk from the real hardliners, and you’ve got yourself enough evidence to show what is really happening in South Africa.
We have seen that the foreign governments only start making noise once it is too late. We saw this in Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, Nigeria, Sudan and the list goes on. There is a genocide going on in South Africa. Of the population of 46 million in South Africa, 2 million are white and then less than half of that number are Boere with the morals and ethics and trust and belief in YHWH that has made them a nation looked upon with admiration by the likes of Rooseveldt, Doyle and others. How long before anybody speak up? We can’t wait for the world to experience it first hand during the World Cup, or until we have to form laagers once again.
When we speak up here in South Africa we are labeled as racists and the previous oppressors that just want to take the land of the black people and want to install the old “apartheid” regime. Unless there is some intervention by the international community the Armenian genocide might just be attempted to be copied here. We know however that YHWH is faithful and trust in his miraculous salvation.
