Democrat Bill Owens has beaten Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman in a special run-off election for New York State’s 23rd congressional district.
The race took the national spotlight after former GOP Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin broke party ranks and endorsed Hoffman over the Republican candidate, Dede Scozzafava.
Scozzafava dropped out of the race Saturday and then shocked Republicans by endorsing Democrat Owens.
Political pundits saw the election in the traditionally-Republican congressional district as a political stress test for the strength of conservative candidates. Some also saw it as proof of a split between conservatives and moderates within the party.
As of this writing, Owens has beaten Hoffman 49-46.

Now that the Republican establishment has got the message that its rank and file won't support a stealth Democrat, next year if they put up a conservative or even a true moderate (one who doesn't support homosexual unions or marriages, who doesn't support elimination of secret union ballots, and public funding of abortions), we'll kick this guy's ass out.
