A rare 1968 Chinese stamp that was pulled the day it was released has been sold at auction for a record US $475,000.
The stamp, titled “The Whole Country Is Red,” shows the entire country of China in a blazing red – except for Taiwan.
Stamp creator Wang Wei Sheng, was afraid he would be punished for his politically-incorrect error. “For a long time I was really worried that I would be jailed,” he told AFP news agency.
Taiwan split from China at the end of The Chinese Civil War in 1949. Controversy about its status has remained ever since, while Beijing considering Taiwan to be part of its territory and has been waiting for reunification.
