Construction jobs saved by Obama Stimulus
Preliminary state data shows that Barack Obama’s US $787 billion Stimulus Package has saved thousands of jobs from being lost, primarily in the teaching and labor industries.
Because billions of dollars were sent to stabilize state budgets, this prevented massive layoff from occurring, reports The Associated Press. California alone was able to hold on to 62,000 teachers; Utah reports saving 2,600 teaching jobs. In both states, education jobs represented about two-thirds of the total stimulus job number.
Other states reporting saved education jobs are Missouri with more than 8,500 and Minnesota with more than 5,900. In Michigan, where officials said 19,500 jobs have been saved or created, three out of four were in education.
The Stimulus, officially known as The Recovery Act, gave billions to states in the form of highway money, which allowed road repairs and other construction projects to continue. Because these types of jobs are given out more on a bidding process, it will take longer to accumulate the data than with the education jobs.
Total national data will not be available until the end of this month. The job count will not tally jobs created by Obama’s $288 billion tax cuts or attempt to quantify the ripple effect of stimulus spending.
States were told to keep their counting simple: A job means a full-time, full-year position. So a 40-hour-a-week summer job will be counted as one-fourth of a job. A part-time researcher who works all year is half a job. And the full-time construction engineer who works all year is one job.
The Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board is an independent body set up by Congress to monitor recovery act spending, and called for the state audits to be made. It will first release data that reflects spending on federal agencies, such as repairing military bases and national parks, Thursday. Then later this month, the board will release grant data, which will include jobs such as construction workers hired to repair local highways using federal money.
The good news is dampened by a national unemployment rate nearing 10%, and some states far exceeding that number.

THe 70% number comes from Walter Williams. 15.2 % unemployment in Michigan is the highest in the nation. Granholm has used the stimulus money to maintain union government jobs that create nothing but taxes. The cash for clunkers went to more Japanese cars than so-called American, GM and Chryler are in another round of layoffs. Come to Michigan and get on the soup line! Move to Detroit and die!

It’s big gov expansion
With millions of Americans unemployed Obama should:
a) Cancel all temporary working visas like H1-b and L1. We don't have a labor shortage and they should be canceled.
b) Cancel or suspend all employed based green card visas like EB1, EB2 and EB3
These visas named above are used by greedy companies to bypass the American workforce and hire cheap foreign labor. America should protect American workers.
H1/L1 Imported Cheap Labor is the hidden job loss. There are over 3 million H-1B guest workers who are holding the jobs that Americans desperately need. The solution to unemployment is obvious and simple: Stop H-1b, H-2B, J-1 and other guest worker programs.
What a bunch of garbage. Exactly how do you prove that a job was saved by the stimulus? If you still have your job after the stimulus was passed, a good researcher could likely use statistics and earnings reports to prove your job was saved. Why dont they just report how many jobs the stimulus created? It should have created hundreds of thousands of jobs, but apparently it must have created few because they have to lump saved jobs with created jobs.
In California teachers get laid off by the thousands, whether they need to lay them off or not, they pink slip all new teachers and those without tenure, just in case. Then they hire some of them back and say that they “saved those jobs”… What a crock! How about all the jobs that were still lost? There were not enough teachers before the layoffs, because of lack of budget. Now there are less… but we saved jobs… go figure?!
Obama is trying to save face when he knows and we know that he’s loosing his ass.
