Former Senator and GOP presidential candidate Bob Dole is urging Republican lawmakers to pass legislation on health care reform.
“This is one of the most important measures members of Congress will vote on in their lifetimes,” the former Republican Senate majority leader and presidential candidate told an audience in Kansas City today. “If we don’t do it this year I don’t know when we’re gonna do it.
Dole is about to release a joint statement with Republican Howard Baker and Democrat Tom Daschle echoing his statements.
Some Republicans, such as Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell, oppose passing health care legislation because it is “helping the president,” Dole told the audience.
“I don’t agree with everything Obama is presenting, but we’ve got to do something,” Dole said as his response. “I want this to pass.”
