Civil rights leader Jessie Jackson has publicly blamed the foreign policies of the Bush administration for Chicago’s losing its bid to host the 2016 Summer Olympic games.
“There must be resentment against America,” the Rev. Jesse Jackson said, near the stage where he had hoped to give a victory speech in Daley Plaza. “The way we [refused to sign] the Kyoto Treaty, we mislead the world into Iraq. The world had a very bad taste in its mouth about us. But there was such a turnaround after last November. The world now feels better about America and about Americans. That’s why I thought the president’s going was the deal-maker.”

Jackson’s sentiment was publicly echoed by at least one other Chicago Democrat politician. “I travel a lot [....] I thought we had really turned a corner with the election of President Obama,” said State Rep. Susana Mendoza. ” People are so much more welcoming of Americans now. But this isn’t the people of those countries. This is the leaders still living with outdated impressions of Americans.”
White House Press secretary Robert Gibbs rejected the idea that Bush was to blame for the Olympic loss. “No, I think you saw both at the U.N. General Assembly, you saw at the G20 last week [....] I think virtually every measure of our standing in the world is different than it was just this time last year. So I don’t read too much of that into this.”

Philoctetes, I would think for one because of the war. But I’m talking the safety behind it, not the policies. The Olympics are an international event, and I’m happy to see Rio get it. I think that will be interesting too. I like seeing the flavor other countries give, and the fact that this is the 1st time a South American country has had it…that’s just right. Why do you feel America (USA) should be hosts again, especially so soon. It should be spread around…that’s the spirit of the Olympics.

NYC didn’t get the olympica four years ago most likely becuae of the 9/11 attacks. The IOC probably didn’t want to take a chance of another attack during the olymoics. We already had a terrorist attack when we hosted the Atlanta olympics during Clinton’s regime and didn’t want a replay on a much larger scale. NYC hosting the olympics would’ve presented a perfect target for terrorists.
As far as blaming the Chicago loss on Bush, well, Jesse Jerkson, as usual, is wrong. Hussein Obama was elected by the Left-Wing loons and the Marxist media on the promise that he would’ve reversed the “evils” of the Bush years. He was elected on that theme. It was supposed to go like this: Hussein Obama would be elected and the world would fall in love with us, again. I just heard from Rush Limbaugh that Chicago was chosen as one of the four finalists for the 2016 olympics in June 2008. THAT’S JUNE 2008, when Bush was president. So, so much for that LIE, that LAME EXCUSE, that it was Bush’s fault that Chicago lost!!!!!

NYC lost the 2012 Olympic bid because of the its failure to build the West Side Stadium. The Olympic committe saw the “sausage making” that went on there and it left a sour taste in its mouth,

The lack of a west side stadium was not the reason NYC didn’t get the olympics four years ago, because there were plenty of other venues that were available, including the HUGE expanse of land that was under consideration at the time, in Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens…the site of the 1939 and 1964 Worlds’ Fairs. That site is still largely undeveloped and its locale is PERFECT for highway access, parking, mass transit accessability, as well as a close proximity to La Guardia and JFK airports and the plethora of hotels. Let’s be honest, there’s a reason why the annual U.S. Tennis Open is such a raving success in that same area.
Manhattan and the outer boroughs were never really an option for the IOC not only because of the logistical traffic nightmare and lack of mass transit access….. but because of the fear of terrorism….period!
