Former US President Jimmy Carter has backtracked on earlier remarks that criticism of Barack Obama is based on racism, and are actually with legitimate merit.
“I said those that had a personal attack on President Obama as a person, that was tinged with racism,” Carter told CNN. “But I recognize that people that disagree with him on health care or the environment, that the vast majority of those are not tinged with racism.”
He added: “I meant exactly what I said. What I actually said, if you look at the transcript, is just what I just repeated to you.”
Carter caused a firestorm two weeks ago when he said opponents of Obama are basing their criticism on him because “he is a Black man.”
“I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man, that he is African-American,” Carter told NBC News at the time.
An outcry from people of all political and racial stripes became so deafening that key Democrats and even Obama himself had to come out and condemn Carter’s assertion.

Carter has always had a guilt complex about growing up in the south. Plains, GA is not only the south but is within 5 miles of Andersonville, the Auschwitz of the south.

If he's telling the truth — if his current statement is the same has his earlier one — why would you say that he has backtracked? You checked the transcripts to make sure your story was accurate, right?

Jimmy Carter has always been a mindless moron. He always seems to get his mouth in motion before he gets his brain turned on. He was a one term president because he did not know how to govern. The same can be said about Obama, he is at a loss to do anything because he lacks the ability to make important decisions, and when he does make a decision, it has horrible consequences.
@ Frank: I agree with your last point that is, as Carter says, all those who criticize Obama are racists, then Carter, who continually bashes Israel despite having his head up Menachem Begin’s tuchis for years, is an antisemite.
