In a major reversal, the White House plans to drop Bush administration plans to build a long-range missile defense shield in Poland and the Czech Republic in favor of regional missile defense systems in Europe.
The decision comes after a 60-day review ordered by Barack Obama that concludes Iranian missile capability has been overstated. The review has found that the Islamic regime’s missiles do not have the capability to reach Europe, and it is far from being able to process weapons-grade uranium.
The review did find that NATO allies in Europe are more threatened by Iran’s short- and medium-range missile capability, thus the move by the Obama administration to smaller, regional defense systems.
The move also lessens tensions between the United States and Russia, which viewed the Bush missile defense system as an offensive move into its traditional sphere of influence. Russia, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, had threatened to veto any proposed sanctions on Iran as retaliation. Russia deployed its own missile defense system last November in direct response to the Polish missile system.
“We expect the U.S. will abide by its commitments” an unnamed Polish offiical told The Wall Street Journal, but would not “speculate” on those decisions. Poland has previously lobbied for a Patriot missile defense system, operated by the American military, as an alternative.

Look at the map showing the rocket ranges from Iran – where do they stop short of? Israel. That’s why Bush wanted the shield, to protect that shitty little country.
The neo-con Zionists pushing for the shield didn’t care about the missiles threatening Russia, all they care about is Israel. That’s it! It’s as simple as that.
Meanwhile, Obama is putting in smaller missile shields that are just as capable of protecting Eastern Europe. All the whining is coming from Zionists who wanted the big shield because it would have protected Israel.

The Poles spent enormous political capital to convince their citizens to risk this deployment. They've backed us consistently in NATO and the UN. They sent combat troops to support us in Iraq.
The Czechs also fought our political battles for us, supporting our foreign wars and siding with us in international forums — angering West European powers.
Now add Poland and the Czech Republic to the list of allies, such as Israel and Honduras, that we've thrown to the wolves. Obama's foreign policy embodies a line from "Animal House": "You [screwed] up — you trusted us!"
But the worst thing is how this decision's read in Moscow. Putin, Russia's new czar, sees this as a triumph of his will over Obama's weak, retreating US. And he's right.
It's a lose-lose situation for us — and for our allies.
Moscow believes we just signed over a new lease on Eastern Europe. And we didn't even get a tin of caviar. Will the Obama-Putin Act go down in history as the post-modern Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact?
