604 Refugees From South Africa

While last week’s news of Canada granting refugee status to a White South African due to racial persecution, Brandon Huntley is not alone. In fact, there are 604 South Africans who have successfully gotten refugee status and are living in countries around the world.

South African paper The Daily Star notes that Canada has granted refugee status for 33 South Africans, including Huntley. Other countries who have taken in refugees from South Africa are:

  • Germany – 170
  • United States – 111
  • Ireland – 46
  • Canada – 33
  • United Kingdom -25
  • France – 18
  • Australia – 15
