A diplomatic storm is brewing over Canada’s decision to grant asylum to a White South African claiming to be the victim of racial persecution, with the cry of “racism” being used at the highest levels of the South African government.
South Africa’s ruling ANC Party has no doubt the decision is racist. “The ANC views the granting by Canada of a refugee status to South African citizen Brandon Huntley on the grounds that Africans would ‘persecute’ him, as racist,” it said in a press statement.”We find the claim by Huntley to have been attacked seven times by Africans due his skin color without any police intervention sensational and alarming. Canada’s reasoning for granting Huntley a refugee status can only serve to perpetuate racism.”
SA Institute of Race Relations chief executive Frans Cronje said claims of persecution of White South Africans were “largely without foundation.” There were cases of racially motivated crimes in the country, but no evidence of a general pattern and “the vast majority of the victims of violent crime are black,” he said.
Lawyers for Human Rights Director Jacob van Garderen blasted the ruling as “bordering on racism,” adding that it was not in line with international refugee legislation. “The shocking ruling is based on untruths and serious misperceptions that only White people are affected by crime while the government does nothing and implicitly approves,” van Garderen said. “That is nonsense.”
Van Garderen said in terms of Canadian law, the refugee has to prove that he or she is being persecuted because of political views or race.
The Freedom Front Plus says the ANC’s reaction is “in itself racist.” “‘Part of Huntley’s application was that he had been called a ‘white dog’ and a ‘boer’ by criminals during an attack on him,” said FF Plus spokesperson on police Pieter Groenewald.
Groensald said the ANC should rather do everything in its power to fight Black-on-White racism, rather than want to place the blame on someone else or a country such as Canada. The FF Plus spokesperson said that name-calling was ‘nothing unusual’ and charged that police officers had called White victims of crime ‘white dogs.’
Afriforum Willie Spies
Civil rights organization AfriForum said the South African government should view the ruling “in a serious light.” “South Africa’s human rights record has already suffered serious damage as a result of the seemingly uncontrolled crime in the country,” said spokesperson Willie Spies. “Urgent deliberation is required now and a task team of experts from minority communities should be appointed to investigate the fears which result in emigration,” he said.
Meanwhile, White refugee Brandon Huntley believes the South African Government is “disgusted with me for telling it like it is.” “I’ve opened people’s eyes,’ Huntley told The Cape Times yesterday. Huntley did not want to talk about his potentially precedent-setting application because he fears the consequences his family, who are still living in South Africa, might face. He also is adamant that he will not be communicating with South African authorities about his successful refugee status application. “I refuse to talk to the government,” Huntley told the paper. Despite his self-admitted fear of returning to South Africa, Huntley’s Facebook profile reveals that he is a passionate Springbok rugby supporter and a member of the “South African Braai Network.”

Kate Lefko-Everett of the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation, said it was important to recognize that “as a person who felt he faced persecution, Huntley was within his rights to apply for asylum in Canada,” and Canada was acting within its sovereign rights in granting him asylum. “However, it should not be inferred that the same conclusion would necessarily be reached if other South Africans apply for asylum on similar grounds,” she said. “(But) it is of concern that some of the evidence provided appears to contain inaccuracies, or outdated information.”
The ruling could be reviewed, but the Canadian Federal Court would have to intervene, the IRB’s Stéphane Malépart is quoted as saying. If the court found the case was not handled within the legislative framework, it would be referred back to the IRB, she said.

OK, having lived in SA and SWA born (white) I believe I can offer a somewhat concise and real assessment of what is going on in the south of Africa. Under their breaths, most elder South African people, black especially, only can hope that the aparthied laws were still in effect. Under that system, illegal immgration was stopped, jobs were guaranteed, and the absence of filth and porn were nonexistent. Now it is tribe versus tribe. It is open season the way it has been for years before the Dutch landed and established a refueling station near Capetown. Nobody can hold the warring tribes in check like the apartied system did. Quite simply, the country ran like a Swiss watch until majority rule. What once fed the entire African nation and half of Europe in SA and Rhodesia is now in ruins thanks to black governments. Even Kenya has imported British executives to sit behind black puppets who hold titles of power as these puppets know nothing of management. Even an impartial outsider can see this. Now comes the retributions towards the whites which is only natural in this tribe vs tribe mentality. The Zulu's who were aligned with the whites for centuries are now persecuted also. Look at Rwanda and other countries like Uganda who practice tribal genocide. This is not a white vs black thing and never has been. The whites simply controlled the tribes thru a series of laws to keep them in check. Now that is removed, it everyone for themselves. I could not give an intelligent opinion on the case of the South African who applied for refugee status, alleging racial persecution, because I do not know enough about the details of the case. I did have occasion to meet some of the then-exiled members of the African National Congress when they were in the USA back in the 1980's, working to line up American support for the establishment of a legitimate government in their home country of South Africa. I was very impressed with the intelligence and dedication of these ANC members.
I don't think most of the respondents to this news story know much about this case either. Racism is bad, whether it is perpetrated by black people, white people, brown people, red people, or blue people. I have been around the world quite a bit in my lifetime, and I have known good people, bad people, kind people, and hateful people of all races.
It is good that South Africa got rid of the apartheid system, and it is good that there should be a strong, healthy relationship between the USA and South Africa. The fight against crime is everybody's business, whether you live in the USA, South Africa, Canada, the Philippines, India, Argentina, Brazil, or anywhere else.
People of any shade can be racist. People of any shade deserve to live in peace.

Before the whites settled any part of Africa the indigenous peoples were mainly prey for the predators, both human and nonhuman. The average life span was approx .34 years. Remember Idi Amin Da da, the massacer in Rawanda, the many civil wars such as in Somalia etc. etc. The higher standards of Life style you see in Africa in general are the result of direct intervention of white people! For those proclaiming that Huntley is a white supremacist that benefitted from Apartheid, you are wrong. Apartheid has been dead since, effectively, 1990 (the unbanning of the ANC), and officially since 1994. Huntely is only 31, so that means that in 1990 he was 12 years old, hardly old enough to have been "influenced" by Apartheid.

I am a black South African. I've realised that the comments made in this forum are mostly from white supremists and people who have never been to South Africa. We black Africans have a spirit of Ubuntu and do not judge a person by the colour of the skin. It is true that crime is a problem but it is affecting all races especially blacks (due to poverty). The claims made by Brandon are false and immature. The South African working very hard to fight crime and has increased the metropolitan police. It is unfair to expect the government to undo the 400 years old damage in just 10 years. Nevertheless, the South African government has improved the quality of life for its citizens.
My message to open-minded people all over the world is to stop listening to immature people like Brandon and to come see the facts for themselves. I guarantee that you will not be disappointed.
I have never been to South Africa, but living in Canada I know many whites who have come here from SA, and all say the same, it is impossible to live there now because the blacks are so racist and dangerous towards white people.
